It is interesting that in the 60s during the muscle car period, you could order performance packages or "drag pack" options that would get you 4.11 gears in a normal street car. The icing on the cake is that during this timeframe, there were no overdrives around either in automatic or stick shift. High gear (third or fourth) was a 1:1 ratio.
