302 vs Boss 302

Can anyone tell me the difference between a boss 302 and a 302?

Are you talking about the new Ford crate boss engine series or the old 69/70 Boss 302 engine?

Not sure what year the engine is.

4 bolt mains (2, 3, 4), screw in freeze plugs, beefier oil pan rails and piston bores, and siamese bore block are the main differences on the new Ford Racing Boss engines. I believe these are the same differences for the most part in the older 302 Boss engines with the addition of Cleveland heads installed on the older versions.

If it's an older Boss 302, then the valve covers will be rectangular instead of the normal "trapezoidal" SBF valve covers....

The older Boss 302's were 302's fitted with Cleveland heads.

Boss 302 (1970s) had totally different top end---heads made power past 7000rpm, nothing down low--valve arrangement was like the cleveland engines

and parts don't enterchange for the most part
