Default Need a windsheild for my CR--

Hi all--

New CR owner, bought it used and have been working through assorted issues for a few months. The car is coming around, but the front glass is broken on both sides--I've read there is a need for shimming to keep the bolts from pulling in on the lower corners. But I need to replace the broken glass--anybody got a line on one? Thanks!! --Tony

Deviate,
All the windshields from the different suppliers are the same. you'll notice that I have a CR and I have replaced a windshield so I know this to be true.
if you don't have a manual you might want to get a copy for the mounting procedure.

It amazes me how many broken windshields are posted here. Is it they crack easily, or are there just that many members here?

Lexan? Again!

Make sure it is not stressed where it mounts to the frame. Shim it accordingly so as not to stress it. I can supply windshields and replacement glass.

Dont waste your time and money on glass windsheilds .... if you have roads like we do in canada get the windsheild kit from Fastfreddies , its a perfect fit Lexan bulletproof windsheild, awesome fit and finish and only 375$ , cant say enough about it

How does the new Lexan do when it comes to scratching?
That would be my main concern is ending up with the "Lexan haze" and not being able to see through the blasted thing.

If you use a good cleaner and a clean rag its good. also if it gets a few small scratches...car wax and it generally buffs out pretty good. I have heard if you put rain-x on the lexan it also hazes up bad. I havent tried it yet but gonna get a test peice and try it.

I replaced my windshield 11 years ago with Lexan. It Looks as good today as the day I replaced it.

I posted a "How to Replace your Windshield" thread at the time

Note:

I use spray window cleaner and lint free towels only
I try to hose off any dirt before wiping or cleaning
I ONLY use horizontal strokes when wiping off the cleaner ( I think this helps avoid/minimize micro scratches in the scratch "resistant" coating.
I have used my wipers on occasion but I wipe off the blades to insure no dirt is on them which could scratch the windshield.
I do use Rain-X which helps avoid having to use the wipers ( Rain-X does leave a coating which can give a bit of a haze on cool nights nothing major)

Since replacing I've heard a number of rocks bounce off the windshield without leaving so much as a mark so it was definitely worth the $125 I spent at the time. I would probably be well over $1000 in replacements if I had used glass.

Hope this helps,
Mike
