Default Trunk light and latch options

I have a couple questions for the group...

1) I purchased a trunk light / license plate light from Finishline, but it is smaller than the flat spot molded into the trunk lid. Are there any other lights out there that fit better or is this something I just have to live with?

2) I have the original trunk latch, but my wife wants it to lock. Has anyone installed a lockable latch? I was thinking of using a traditional Cobra chrome handle and latch but mounted in the body below the trunk lid because the traditional mounting spot is blocked be the license plate. Any thoughts or better ideas? Has anyone else done something similar?

Thanks

The license plate light and holder is from a mid to late '50's airstream trailer.....and yes they are still made.

Is your car still in the stages where you could adjust the shape around the light to fit the contour a little better ?

Most T handles as part of the three lock set on these are lockable. They make lockable and non-locking L and T handles if you prefer. There should be enough room between the light and the handle unless the plate surround is large. I have seen some guys bend the plate/holder outward a little to clear the handle mounting point, to just before where the T handle would strike it when turned. It makes for a careful open and closing via handle, but works. I have never seen the latch setup located under the trunk. I have seen remote poppers for the trunk and hood though, which gives it a cool clean look.

Good Luck,
Mike.

Thanks for the tips. I found the airstream light on Amazon, so that should be here in a few days. Once it is mounted, I will check the trunk T handle placement.

Good luck with the T/locking handle on a CR's. License plate will not allow room for the handle, symmetrically anyway. How ever, a thought.... drop the handle all the way down to the "splash pan/rear panel under the lic. plate, below the trunk lid. Install up side down so the latch is pointing up. Cut a slot in the floor, mount a steel tube onto the fiberglass where the latch hook will catch it when turned-lock. Wish I would have thought of that 20 years ago

I bought the 3 piece set of keyed-alike locking handles from Factory Five. I s/b getting them later today, so I obviously can't comment yet on how well they work. Find them here: Three Lock Set and Fasteners - Factory Five Parts Catalog

Cycleguy, so what did you use to connect the latch hook to? Where did you get the striker it connects to?
