Default Help needed: air filter

So yesterday I went to find a new air filter for my CR with a 350 Chevy. Apparently I have the unicorn of air filters, it is an oval filter and measures 12" long and 9.5" wide with overall height of 2.5" (2" being actual filter element). The only 12" oval filters I can find after an extensive search online are barely over 8" wide. The current filter has no brand name just says Model-351 (no help so far on my online escapade). The air cleaner has a top plate that says Cobra, but I have no idea who made it as it is much shorter than a true Cobra cleaner assembly. I'm almost to the point of replacing the entire air cleaner, although I'd prefer to spend ~$25 on a filter instead of $100-200 for an entire assembly. Any help would be great!

If you use a cotton gauze type filter(K&N), a round filter is used. Just squeeze in the sides. A little quick figuring comes to just a hair over 11 inches diameter. it would be handy if an 11" would work because there are multiple heights available.

For now I put an edelbrock 10" round filter assembly on it, I think I may have to experiment with squeezing some round filters to fit. Joyful times!

I think I will try to find an 11" and see if I can make it an oval. Would like to have the "Cobra" air cleaner assembly on there when I pop the hood instead of a plain Edelbrock cover...

Default Correct airfilter element

Sounds like you have the same "cobra" filter housing I do, and went thru the same search for an element. Thanks to the local NAPA sales guy I foud one that is a pretty good fit. Its a NAPA part 2071 for a 71/72 Pinto. It measures 11.030" Dia. 8.925" ID and 2.300" tall. Just squeeze til its oval and you're good to go. Hope that helps you
