Default Automatic transmission for Classic Roadster

Hi

I'm planning to change to automatic transmission as I would like to use my car for daily commute.

According to my reading, c4, c6 and AOD are the available options...

The engine of my car is 351w ford. I understand it was modified by welding the crank and upgraded to close to 7 liters / 427...

I hear that c4 is good for small blocks (like 351w i hv) and c6 is recommended for big block (427 for example). And AOD is also good for big blocks.

My questions are:

1. Which automatic transmission option is your recommendation for daily commute

2. Who is a reliable supplier for this transmission for shipment to Dubai ?

3. Any idea about the cost

So far I seem to be liking AOD more than others.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Best regards,
Artur

Try a two speed power glide can b built strong. They have adapter for ford. These cars are so light they work well. And with that power it will pull like a train .

You may want to look up and contact CC member 'twin turbo' (Club Cobra - View Profile: twin turbo), he has a 'full manual AOD trans' behind a Dart block 331 that's fuel injected with twin turbos. He claims he gets 14 MPG in town, 20 MPG hwy, and has run a 10.0 second 1/4 mile at 144 MPH on "a dusty non prepped track." He has to be putting down a lot a HP to get those kind of numbers, so an AOD should work in your application.

you will need a early model AOD that is not controlled by the ECU. I know a 1988 model was cable controlled.
You can buy a kickdown control kit from Lokar Performance. It MUST be adjusted correctly or you will burn up the trannie, quickly!

Lokar Performance Products: 1-877-469-7440

I think the AOD is a much better trannie than the C-4 and C-6 in a street Cobra.

I just got a modified 4 speed AOD for my cobra from TCI transmission that came with new fluid ,torque converter, and kickdown cable, and a trans cooler . Its called the AOD streetfighter combo. also its a manual shift that stays in any gear you select and or full auto depending on what you want and how you shift it and it was about $2,700.00 as I recall.

I think any of the transmissions you mentioned will work well if properly set up, and would add to the list the 4R70. The question is if you want overdrive or not. The C4 was not a consideration for me because they don't hold up well to big torque and tall gearing (numerically low). I went with an AOD built by silverfoxtrans.com and have been very happy with it for several years now. If you go to clickclickracing.com you can get answers about all of these transmissions in a performance application. Silverfox posts on their frequently as well. The thing I like is he personally builds every transmission. Good luck in your search.
