Rear view Mirror, windshield or dash mount
Mirror mounted on the windshield versus the dash mount. Which is better?
I bought my cobra and the glued on mirror on the windshield fell off before I got it home. It was in place for about half of the trip home before it fell onto the floor. For the short time that I could use it I thought it vibrated a lot which made it hard to recognize anything in it.
Is the dash mounted mirror a better way to go? I thought I should ask before I re-glue the windshield mounted one back into place.

Dash mounted rear view mirror would be the best position, and the correct position if you want to be authentic.

I don't know if dash mounted is the best way to go but that is what I have. Under hard acceleration the vibration makes the mirror useless.

I would take a look at adjusting the pivot point for the mirror. It should not move under acceleration. I have an FE with about 500 HP and mine does not move under hard acceleration.

Whoever built my car put a newer style manually dimming mirror (flip tab when your blinded) that is designed to be glued on a windshield and mounted it on the dash. Does it look period correct? Nope. BUT it stays put and when all these lovely HID headlights in the SUVs and trucks are me I can flip the tap and not be blinded

I had one of those, also mounted on the dash. Every time I accelerated hard in 1st gear and sometimes 2nd, the mirror wanted to fold flat. Had to re-adjust it way too often.
Replaced it with the period correct version (from FFR) and the problems went away.

Who is looking in their mirror under hard acceleration?? Originally my mirror was mounted to the windshield and it vibrated plus it blocked my view to some extent and I didn't like the look. One day my young daughter bumped it getting out of the car and it fell off. She thought she was in big trouble and felt so bad...I told her thanks, I was wondering how I was going to remove that. She was relieved and we both laughed. I used the mirror from Finishline and mounted it to the dash which I like much better. Some of my cobra buddies have a wider clip on mirror they like for better visibility but I have not tried those. But under hard acceleration my eyes are forward.

I had mine on the dash to begin with but because of my height, could not see behind me very well. I moved mine to the top of the wind shield and now I can see behind me! Mine vibrated in both locations.

FYI- I realized after installing my mirror to the dash, nice and centered, that the proper location is slightly right of center when you are facing towards the front of the car.

Mine is mounted to the windshield with some industrial strength two-sided tape. Just thick enough to absorb most vibrations. Mine is vibration free.

Dark Water ( click here) makes a nice bracket that goes in the top groove of the wind screen. I had mine on the dash before I moved it to the top. It vibrates the same in both places.

I've had the Finish Line mirror on the dash and is now on a rod that the mirror can be slid up and down on...both places it vibrates a lot...but thank heavens I can still JUST make out the Police lights coming up behind me...Oh well....Steve

Thanks guys,
It sounds as though no matter where I put it, vibration is going to be a problem. I would like to know what kind of two sided tape jhv48 used, I have never seen anything strong enough to hold a mirror onto glass.
Once I drill holes to mount a mirror on the dash I am committed to that location, glued onto the windshield is what I will do. Mirrors have been glued to windshields for years so I should be able to get this one to stick. Thanks for the input.

Most auto parts stores (e.g. O'Reillys, etc.) have kits to do this. Cyanoacrylate adhesive and cleaner, I believe.
