did CR factory build or were they only kits?

They probably did. I got my kit in 1999 and they offered turn key Cobras then.
Whether or not they sold any, I don't know. Others here may have that answer.

Mine was a "Factory" build, according to the gentleman I bought it from.
He was the only owner, built in 2004 by Don himself, so I am told.

PS.THEY had a workforce of at LEAST Full 8 time guys doing nothing but building "Turn Key"s.

yes we did a pile of Factory Completes using 1995 Ford 302's complete with all the emissions. the motor and its hundreds of Misc. parts cost us nearly as much as the rest of the car combined.
