Default Selling your Cobra

I sold my original 1991 Classic Roadster a few weeks ago and got the same price I paid for it 26 years and 27,000 miles ago. I can't think of anything that I have owned that gave me so much pleasure.

I sold the Cobra through a web site called www.bringatrailer.com its a funny name but worked for me. It didn't actually sell at my reserve price in their auction but the company gave up the rights to the buyer's commission and gave me the top bidders contact information and he bought it for my reserve.

Check out the web site they list about one Cobra replica a week. Most don't sell for their reserve but I regularly see bid prices for the nice ones bidding in the $60-70,000 range. Maybe better in the spring? Lots of interesting cars bidding every day some in the $200,000+ range.

DV I will stop by with what I replace it with next spring.

Anyway have a good one.

Bye

I watched with great interest, your BaT auction. 1-There isn't that many CR that go up for sale there, and 2- I own one (Not that I would every sell mine), but nice to see what the market is. I've have sold 5-6 cars on BaT, and had pretty much great feedback from the comments, (Never sell a rusty Alfa, as your first one) "Baptism by fire" I got more then I was asking for all the cars, and made life long friends there. I'm happy & sad for you, as the reason you sold had nothing to do with the car, and as you said, the "new' car will cost thousand's more. Hope the new owner will visit here, as this is the best Cobra site out there, I would have never finished mine without these guy's, All the best Tom.

Most sales are "Wire Transfer" there. I had one gentleman send a Cashier's check, paid before the car left on the transport. The "boys" are great to work with on BaT. Cheers Tom.

One way to reduce the risk is to use an escrow service. This is only one of the many available, but probably the one best known: https://www.escrow.com/

Most people do a wire transfer but in my case the buyer suggested the following, he sent me a personal check for $5,000 and asked me to store the Cobra till spring and he would bring cash when he picked up the car. Worked great for me and the check cleared before I sent him a receipt.
