That’s sweet. That Q Shock has some force rite. I think if you didn’t need it Ford wouldn’t use it.
Shock mounts look great that’s what I’m doing when mine fly off.
Hey serious add 1/4” or better steel plate inside frame at top mount it’s only 3/16” that’s thin for a load point. I’ve got the lower rearend bolt hole area up to 3/4” thick inside the mount

Edit: looked closer saw your extra steel, nevermind

Party On

You sure beefed up those upper shock mounts on your ride. I noticed on a Factory 5 chassis set up, that they use a single bolt to mount the upper and lowers on the shocks to the chassis.

RonKahn 12-11-2021 09:29 AM

Correct, I framed it in with a triangular piece and on top to distribute the forces. I welded the mount, as well as bolted with the grade8 bolts too. Look, I could pick up the whole car with how this is built now. I am not too worried. I just put the sway bar on and have to make a mount for the brake line mount from a mustang. Then the rear is done expect for removing it all again later for the frame to be powedercoated.

That's some nice work you did beefing that up.

Uuumm, yes it does. I liked what you did and duplicated it. Thanks for the idea. That is why we are all here to give ideas to everyone.

mine is done, rear coilovers set with spring adjusters almost fully extended, will see how she rides and handles. Crappy weather in Michigan right now, so may be a while before road test.

-24°F here right now, going to -26°F tonight with an Accufeel of -31°F. Not Cobra weather. I've been told the Sorels aren't compatible with a Cobra footbox anyway.

hoping the springs will settle a little, I am sitting about an inch higher than I want in the rear. If not, then its a quick change to 225 LB springs. I removed 225 lb springs from the original location before the changeover. at the beginning of the project......

With the spring adjusters fully extended, do you wish you would have done something different, ordered a different part?

How about You RonKahn?

Hahahhaha

I think I have you beat here. We hit -40C, thats -40F

Anything you would have done with your conversion? What did you do for rear brakes, brake lines, and e brakes?

RonKahn 12-30-2021 06:08 AM

I am still mocking up the front end with new parts. Hated the Helix garbage and bought all Heidts. The rear is done, but not on the ground yet to see how the 250springs will work. As soon as I get to the that point, I will definitely let all know.

Sycraft 12-30-2021 08:10 AM

I will have to see how it rides. If it stays too High 225 lb springs will be tried. I am hoping once driven they will settle a little. I would prefer a firmer ride. Plus on big dips I would bottom out with 225 springs. . Maybe a 12 inch spring would work as well. Have 14 inch now.

Sycraft 05-09-2022 07:15 PM

put the 175 inlb springs in, rides great, no issues. This will be what I run, a little sag and they will be fine.

Sycraft 06-08-2022 03:33 AM

All still good, over 500 miles on setup. Had 1 rear QA1 coilover start leaking, Summit Racing did right and sent me a replacement at n/c. Swapped out in 15 minutes and sent the leaker back. Ride is solid up to 110MPH so far. pushing in corners feels planted, no torque steer. But I did replace all the bushings in the lower arms and replaced the uppers with spherical bearing adjustable units, so very little axle movement. Did not add to the NVH of the ride, actually improved according to my wife who rides shotgun most of the time. If you are coming to London, OH for the Cobra Meet, look me up. I will be at the host hotel and my Trailer will be a 18' RED Impact Tremor pulled by a Silverado

RonKahn 06-08-2022 03:50 AM

Already have the hotel room booked. See you there!

Skycraft, you originally had 14" 2.5" 250lb springs in the rear, correct? It was too stiff? you went to 14" 2.5" 175lb and find it rides nice?

Sycraft 08-31-2022 07:04 PM

correct, 175 lb springs ride great no issues at all
