Starting my CR build!

Hello everyone. A couple guys asked me to start a build thread so here we go! I happened upon a “barn find” (actually a garage LOL) 1992 Classic Roadster that was purchased in 1992 and never touched. I have the body, frame and most of the small parts. They went out of business before he received all the parts. So I have most but not all. I have the suspension in place and it’s sitting on Phil Schmidt Engineering wine glass wheels. I’m building a 1995 351w roller block, standard stroke with Flo-tek heads, trickflow cam, Performer RPM intake and 650 Quickflow Brawler carb. That’s going to be mated to a Tremmec 3550 5 speed out to a Ford 9” 3:73 posi. Hope to have the engine/trans in place in the coming weeks. That’s where I am now. Long road to go, but it’s gonna be fun! I am so glad I found this forum. I’m sure to have many questions along the way and hope I can help too.

What kind of parts are you missing?

Roylerumble I’m missing small things like headlight assemblies, turn signals, bumperetts, brake/tail lights, steering column and trunk latch mechanism. The big pieces missing are windshield assembly, headers and side pipes. I have the complete interior, all body panels and pieces and all the frame/chassis pieces.

Headlamp assembly part number is on here, I found it, I think its under a thread titled "Holy grail". Turn signals are easy to find it seems, you can choose the rectangle or round, incandescent or led. Bumperettes as I understand may take some research as the mounting holes are different on a CR, but, I found drawings to have the bumper jacks made up on here (can email em). Steering column is a personal choice, Ididit or flaming river is the common one. I have a Chevette one, not sure I'll use it or not. Lots of forums on here, search "steering column". I think the windshield assembly is the same on all of them, so shell valley and any of the suppliers have them, same for wiper assembly. Headers might be tricky, they were apparently a CR part, but, you can have em made up. There was a bunch of threads on here, I started one too about sidepipes, and got some great info on making my own.
Your project sounds a lot like mine. Mine was in a barn, part of it, some of it was in a chicken coupe too, some in the garage. Never put together. I need some things as well, but its seems the guys here have lots of answers and great info. I'm getting lists of everything I need, then doing a big state side buy when the boarders open up. |
That is great information! Yep yours sounds very much like mine. LOL I have slowly been going through the threads and can see this forum and the folks in it are a wealth of information! I’ll take a look at the searches you suggested for sure. I’m only about 3 hours from Shell Valley, I call them and see what they have in stock and may take a trip up there soon! Hopefully the border will open up and you can get the parts you need.

I purchased a 66 Classic Roadster. Got lucky a guy had it in garage for a few years. I have the streached chassis also. I have the whole build book if it's any help. I am looking for headers and side pipes. I am new to this forum. Being an asshole and slid sideways into curb. I'm pretty sure passenger header is bent. Does anyone know where I can get a set. I have a 351 cu in motor.

Very happy to see the pictures of your CR Build. Mine could have been a "garage find" but just started back on it. Recommendations on tubular front suspension? Also has anyone done coil overs front and rear?

Front coilovers are easy, lower arms and QA1 Mustang II sets with choice of springs, I went with 375 rate on the front. Only mod would be either shock extensions for the top of the coilover or cut down and reweld the upper shock rod mount (mine are cut down). Also maybe use the lower arms that delete the strut rods, if my car did not have the body mounted, that would be the way i would go as welding is required. No front sway bar either ( I have the original bronco bar in my garage) the rear has several options, Sunman and I are doing similar things. I am using a UPR mount on the 8.8 axle I have and fabbing an upper mount (may use the Speedway stud mount) just be sure the rear travel and articulation does not bind or put undue strain on mounting points. This will be a winter project for me. Look at your gas cap options early, I do not have the pocket for my cap and as such it has a smaller cap that looks out of place. I do have a proper cap and I am hoping to mount it and ake it look good without the qtr pocket. Keep posting build pics, as there are very few build pics available here. Look at your pedal box carefully as well, I am going to try and use something there too, I hate the current setup but it is a ***** to work on with the body on.....

Sycraft. Thank you for all of the information. The previous owner had already purchased a mustang 2 front suspension setup with the strut rod delete. It’s all welded in place and ready to go! I also did get the fuel cap pocket with the boxes of stuff for the car. That too is installed and good to go. Planning on setting engine and trans in tomorrow. Just finished the engine build today. I’ve looked at the pedal box and the directions for it in the downloaded manual. That will be one of the next things to tackle. Here are a few pics.

The pedal box never really got sorted out Don did a different brake pedal and relocated the pivot point to mixed reviews The box hole relocation is in his gallery I think I’m using it like designed and see what happens The BBK 79 and up Mustang clutch quadrant cable and firewall adjuster works great for a cable clutch setup I’ve got the coil overs mounted in back and will post pix when I get the Quad shocks and a arm brackets installed Thanks for the fuel line n brake line photo makes that easy Party On Wyatt |
Haha yeah just a few more! I am making some progress this weekend though. Got the engine and trans set in place.

Rear suspension
Now that I have the engine and trans in, I can look at pinion and driveline angles. Looks like I’m going to need to raise the pinion up a bit. I used the original upper rear arms that are not adjustable. Do you all run adjustable upper arms? If so, which ones?
