rear Shocks need help.

Don or DV, what type and size shock are you using on the Cobra, i have the 8.8 mustang rearend with mustang brakes.
the car was built over 1yr ago.
Don this is Mike down here in Palestine TX if you remember you sent me the master cyclinder last year.
PS i still have the one to send back to you i just though for some reason i did it already but cleaning out the garage i found it. I was thinking about the coil over rears but looking into the stiffer and adjustable shock option as well. you sent me the stiffer springs already

Mike, I use the Pro Shocks SM600 for the rear. They are kind of spendy but they really improve the ride. They are very light valved and oil filled. No adjustment. If you want to find an adjustable shock I can give you the dimensions of the SM600 for a reference. Most of the time the shocks are set for the lightest valving possible so the adjustable shock isn't really necessary. The coilovers would be a good option, they are very light valved and give a nice ride.

Have CR lower control arms, Ford SVO uppers. Springs are MOOG progressive wound, load leveler springs for Chevette. These are the only replacement Chevette springs available due to the tremendous popularity of the Chevette. But, they work great on a CR Cobra, and they are $76/pr. Shocks are Koni adjustable, cross referenced to VW part number in CR shopping guide.

At the moment, Koni rear, Carrera fronts work OK. Koni adjustable front and rear are targeted end product. Am working with Koni-USA. Will post results on part numbers and results when completed.

I would like to know the dimensions for the rear shocks, i was looking at the Tokico mustang shocks for the 1999 cobra rear end but didnt know if they would fit. they are adjustable. coil overs sound nice but i think the cost is a little high for my driving style . the ones i am looking at are for a 1 inch lowered mustang.

The extended length on the SM 600 is 16.5", compressed is 10.5", and ride height mounted is 13.5". I do move the upper mounting hole down 1.5" so if you can find a shock with a little longer extension you wouldn't need to redrill.

the ones i am looking at are about 20 full extended and 14 compressed. now this is the length of the shock from screw tip to center hole on the other end. using your numbers this one is alittle long. it would fit a standard cobra mustang. but sounds like it may work since it is close to the compressed size. i will have to see what is under there now. i dont remember what is on the car but i would guess its the sm600 if that is what you use.

Well, i was just under the car yesterday and did the spring install, was a little easier once i saw the shock had to come off for full drop. the new springs went in well, and i noticed the shocks were plain white. how do you know if i have the SM600. any way the factory shock setup for rear is not the same as this setup, both ends of the shock have a bolt thru designs the original as a end bolt tip. so this is a no go. the shocks did help with some rubbing but still have some on the hard bumps, just on the driver side, I may consider cutting our the inner fender cover and raising the height over the middle section. Don, is this part removable . it looks glued at the edge. i was going to cover the section with a higher curved piece and rivet it to the inner fender area thus giving me more clearance. just some ideas. thanks Mike
