Default Side pipe question for any old-timers.

I purchased my CR kit back in 1995. Were the side pipes a sufficating the engine back then also??? Have the side pipes always been so restrictive or is it a recent event? Just making sure I really need to replace the mufflers.

Cobra Hawk,
Your kit is just a puppy compared to some of them and YUP, the bad news is, you do have restrictive pipes! You don't have to modify them unless you want more torque, horsepower and a sound that is totally, 100% better!
DV...It's almost cookie time!

Default DV thanks.

I've asked this before, but can't recall the answer. But what mufflers do you recommend. I am all about the torque and HP.

Hey Guys....

I have a set of CR pipes in black that are open 3" ID Glass Paks and they sound GREAT. Had them made by Az Exhaust a couple of years ago and a second set ceramic coated....They are on the car now.

DV & Don Scott....If you know anyone interested in them for a CR let me know. I can email pics.

Kirk Tabler wanted them but I haven't heard from him in months and he doesn't answer emails!! Has anyone heard from him??

I plan to hold them for him a little while longer but if I don't hear anything from him I'll sell them to anyone interested.

Jack

Jack
I'm still alive. Sorry about the e-mail. I don't have the internet at home right now and work has a firewall from hell. I haven't been able to leave the local area because of the heightened security at the base. I intend to get down there sometime this summer. I will be glad to send the money if you need it to hold them. I traded my back ordered pipes for a set of CR headers so I definately need them.

Kirk

OE CR sidepipe mufflers (1 1/8" inside pipe) would be a restrictive exhaust on a Honda Civic. If you were running a stock '63, 260 2v (164hp), you could probably leave it alone. Anything more, engine wise, and the restrictive muffler kills your performance.

Cut the OE CR mufflers out and replace them with glasspacks. What size? 3" core X 30" length, a little on the loud side, but great performance. 2 1/2" core x 30" length, sound is OK cruising. 2 1/4" core x 36" length, sound is very mellow, but engine feels slightly less snappy.
