Default Fuel Mileage???

Not that any of us think fuel mileage is very important but I filled up yesterday and drove to my Ford dealership in Walterboro, SC to get some pieces for my Marauder.

When I got back to Beaufort I had logged 101 miles and refilling the tank took 3.9 gallons from the same pump!!! 25.897 MPG ain't too damn shabby for a fire breathing beast like this thang!!

Holy crap! That's great! I'm betting that you are the forum mileage king. I get about 12 to 13 if I drive gently. And I only have a 289. But the 4.57 gears take their toll.

I have 3.08 gears and a T5-Z with a steep overdrive....70 MPH at 1900 RPM's but 4th is 1:1 where 70 MPH is about 2800 RPM's!!

I don't use OD until I am over 60 MPH....Seems like it lugs it a bit and it is TOO QUIET!!

You guys probably won't believe this one. I sold a Cobra to a guy and we used an LT1 with the 700R4 trans. He drove the car from Minnesota to Georgia and he swears he got 42MPG. I suppose it's possible. The rear was a 8.8 with 327:1 gears.

392 Stroker with TKO and 3:73. Good run last weekend with just a little bit of poking it, returned 17.2. Not bad for 450 HP.

Red face

I would post mine with the Torino Cobra, but I have never got the hang of this fraction thing. I do know that I can drive to Redding, 12 miles, on a half tank. It has a 20 gallon tank.

I wait till I'm at 1/4 tank and then fill it back up.
Fuel mileage is the least of my concerns.

Weenie mileage. My rice burner, 323 GTX AWD Turbo--tin can if there ever was one--beats all you guys. Racing it with studs on the frozen Wisconsin Lakes, it does well to get 3.9 mpg at consistent full throttle. Makes the original Daytona Coupes look like good candidates for the Mobil Economy Run.

Don, 42 mpg from an LT-1 with auto ain't possible...unless he coasted downhill all the way from Minnesota to Georgia. 30 mpg I would buy for highway mileage.

Don,

Hook up the odometer and retest it. 42mpg for any V8 is close to impossible. Even the Honda V6 Hybrid claims no more then 35 mpg.

I get in the 17 mpg range for my mild 428 with 3:30 rear and a Tremec TKO. It has a .68:1.00 OD 5th gear. I'm run about 2000 rpm at 65 mph on the highway.

Terry, hi. I had a '93 Corvette with LT-1/6 speed combo. In sixth gear at 70-75 mph, the motor would be turning 1800 rpm and the instant trip computer would often read mid 30's for miles per gallon. Of course, that was in a car that weighed around 3600-3700 lbs wet. Knock off a 1,000 pounds with a Cobra and I could see where that is "almost" possible with a highly efficient LT-1 with computer-controlled fuel injection. Just my $0.02.

As for my SPF with a guzzling Mighty Demon feeding a high-strung and stroked Windsor, I'm happy just to knock down 10mpg....on a good day when I don't get into the loud pedal too often.

I agree that 42 MPG sounds impossible but the guy swears it's true. The engine was a fuel injected LT1. The car was shipped to Germany and the guy also swears he runs consistent 155 MPH on the Auto Bahn.

This kind of sounds like the 200 MPG carb story!!!

42 mpg steady state, flat to slight downhill, "instant and steady" reading based on the "trip computer" current readout. Not to be confused with "average mpg" at the end of the day, I would think.

My Grand Cherokee V8 will often "instant and steady" read 25 mpg on the trip computer. Reality check: Average 13-14 on a GOOD day, 10 or 11 on a bad one when it's fill up time!

My new 427 "street friendly" build of my FE appears to be doing slightly better than my old 6 mpg. I think I'm in the 8's now.
