Default CR Side Pipe Rebuild

A recap on another approach to a side exhaust system, My objective, for the long term, was to reduce the sound level below what most would consider to be normal for the Cobra. I accepted in advance there would/might be a reduction in power, but for my recreational only type of street driving, that was more than OK.

This was the 2nd time redoing the side exhaust system having previously used a muffler from Arizona exhaust. My understanding is Lucien is now retired. Great sound for a V-8, but it was loud.

I searched for a muffler that would approach being quieter , could not find one with a 4" case, 30" length with tapered 3" ends. that met my desires. Called a few of the muffler manufacturers, they had considered a quiet muffler for the Cobra , but doubted whether there is a market. OK, then I would use multiple components and hope for the best.

Purchased the Lo-bak auger muffler with a 5/8" center tube from:

Dave Stuart
Racing Products & Muffler Co
941 West A St
Hayward, CA 94541

510-783-3714

Prior to the muffler , installed the Car Chemistry 3 disc system with the 1/2'' center tube cap

After the muffler , installed the Vortex Insert Cone:

For coating, used Swain Technology Ceramic Coating:

A thread on Swain Technology:

The Swain coating is white only, personal desire was for black. Sprayed the side pipes with 1800 degree high temp exhaust paint purchased from Bill Hirsch

For those in the NorthEast the modifications were done by:

Rick ( Owner )
Frederick's Autoworks
408 Somers Road, Route 83
Ellington CT 06029

860-875-6683

Rick filled all the welds joining the muffler to the inlet and outlet for a better appearance, looks like one continuous system rather than individual pieces

Overall, very pleased with the end result even though still a bit louder, not much, than I wanted.

The appearance as noted above and ceramic coating by itself made the project worthwhile .

I've been running Lobaks for around a year now. After trying 5 others before them I wouldn't use anything else.
