Default Wind Wing attachment misadventure

In order to obtain a improved fit I filed the two screws that attaches the Wind Wing to the windshield frame.Of course now the screws are too short to fit.does anyone know what size these screws are ,or have extra laying around? They would wish to part with?

Richard

Richard,
Take the ones you have to OSH or Home Depot and size them up. Screws are cheap enough to buy a couple different sizes that might work (better than multiple trips to the store). Just be sure they are not too long or that may be an even worse misadventure (cracked windahield). I have a pair of wire strippers that have some holes with threads made to cut screws to length which I find helpful when you just need that oddball size. Good luck.

http://www.southcoaststainless.com/

It might be difficult to find the right polished stainless hardware at the local hardware store. I have used these folks in the past and they should have what you need. Just make sure to order some matching nuts to chase the threads after you cut one down to the correct size. You DON'T want to cross-thread the window frame holes. Install the nut on the fastener, cut the fastener to length, then remove the nut (thereby cleaning up the threads).

Good luck,

-Dean

go to a Boats US or West Marine, take the one screw with you. They sell stainless marine grade metric and standard and will have varing lengths of many sizes. Had to do this a few times already myself on the same issue. Buy as many variations as you "might" use, keep rest or return as you are talking about 2 bucks for 8 of each size....you'll need them sooner or later.

I have found OSH to carry a better variety of specialty screws than Lowes or Home Depot. Atleast out here they do. JBo has a good suggestion too.

A local ACE hardware store about 10 miles from me carries a ton of SS fasteners. But if they do not have them, I usually order them from the Bolt Depot (its only about 6 miles away and I pick them up).

I was surprised to find that ACE hardware has a great selection of N&B including SS. Not sure if their in your area?.

Thanks for the above replys!

I used 10-24 SS panhead screws from Lowes. The screw head had to be
trimmed to fit the folding block.Im still not happy with the fit.I wonder if
the builder partially stripped the holes in the frame?
