Default CRII dash

I read DV's build, I don't understand cutting the wings part of the dash. Do you mean the ends ? Should they be even with the ends of the hoop? Right now, I have the body off. Any suggestions?

I am alo running a 351W, I can use the stock oil filter location on the block, any advantage of going to a remote filter, or dual filter setup other than ease of changing. I have the adapter and housing for a remote dual setup, but don't see any advatage to it.

Default Oil Filter

I did not use the remote oil filter adapter. Decided that I could change the plumbing later. I have no trouble changing oil with the filter on the block. You just need a shorter filter to clear the frame. I believe these all qualify:
Bosch 3321
Fram PH7328
STP B57328
They all have the following: OD 3.66", Length 3.09", thread ¾-16 tpi.
Mobile one used to make a compatible filter of this size M1-109, but not readily available at the local auto parts store.

As for trimming the ends of the dash to fit the body. I just kept trimming until the dash would fit into position without compression or springing it into postion. Just remember that the dash covering will take up some room as it needs to wrap around the edges.

Default dash wing

I am also wondering about these dash "wings" that need to be cut. Mine have been cut by the previous owner. Not sure how to proceed. Any help would be great. Thank you jay

Gentlemen;
Quite simple really. The body has to be on and at least in proximation to its final resting place.

Install the dash, over the protruding lip of the cowl bar. When you grab the left and right wings/ ears of the dash, bowing them both inward toward each other and you get the dash to fit in place, let go of the wings. When it is trimmed right the dash will sit in place tightly by itself.

DV is right. dont cut the wings off. You will be much happier with them left on. The lip on the wing may require alittle trimming but be patient. The wrap around dash looks great.

Jay,
I know waiting is a pain in the arse, but I am doing a few tricks to a custom CR dash in about a week, maybe ten days at most. If you can hold on I will document this to the fullest, and why I do what I do.

DV,

I'm interested in your I/P ideas as well. I have the custom dash, and I've laid out on paper a layout that would work, (normal gages + heater + vintage looking radio + 3 extra gages for supercharger), but I'm going to hold off doing any cutting to see if I can "borrow" some of your ideas.

Thanks,

MC

Now I'm starting to feel guilty! 3 people wanting more detailed info on the dash. Somebody get on Cpteddies case to tell me how to post pictures from this MAC. I get them to the gallery they just don't come out in the threads.

I've got Cpt eddies Cobra back finally and trying to finish it up for him Feels like I have built him a Cobra and a half...... well if you insist a Cobra and 2/3's. But it appears to be all good right now-we'll see. Anyway I will try and get some pictures of fitting a "Custom" dash in a CR tomorrow. Keep in mind I wont have a firewall or cowl bar in place but we'll see what we can do.
