That is a very bad way to do it, and I say this without trying to inject any malice to a particular brand. Here's why:

You select a kit from Brand F and it goes in your garage/storage unit. Basically it sits as a number of boxes and parts (stuff you don't need while saving for the other 50% of what you will need to ever have a legal driving car).

While you are saving Company F is busy developing new updates or perhaps correcting old sins of the product you are now married to. Perhaps in the meantime you find the funds to purchase an engine or transmission and that goes in the shop with all the other parts/pieces.

So maybe we are 4 years into it and it's time to start building, but now Tremec has a better transmission on the market that costs less, the engine guys have a new head design or a better EFI system is out... you are now assembling with what you have instead of what is the best. Or you are spending double now to get those new parts and sell off the others.

When you have the resources (money and time to assemble it all) then buy the components in a reasonable time frame.

mine was a 6 year build BUT what i did was i started with a body and frame with the windshield and had the body mounted along with the doors, hood, and trunk from the
"factory" that way all of that was correct when it came time to reassemble from paint.
all but a few parts came from a local speed shop and i built as time and money allowed and i ended up with what i wanted from the very start.
i havent gone thrue several engine/trans combos like some have or changed rear gears every other mounth like some have.
with careful planning and a budget in place you can do a 4,5,6 year build and end up with what you wanted in the first place AND there is nothing like building your first...
if i was looking to do a car today i would buy a running car......
thanks to the economy i could not build my car today for what i can buy one for.

Very good deal for the B&B. One of the local guys here has one with a big block FE... it's a very sweet car.

Hey Bryan, that's a very attractive offer and I will definitely keep that on my short list. Can this be fitted with and IRS?

Not putting anyone down, but if you have the funds , the time, the ability there is nothing like building it yourself. I wasn't sure I had the ability. When I finished I poured a drink, went out to my patio and then shouted " I built a car". I then sat down, lit a cigar and pondered what was acomplished. I felt on top of the world.
Since then, because of the accompishment, my cousin is in the process of purchasing the 34 rod just released by FFR, my brother in law in France bought an old Renault 5 and is preparing it for a rally in Morraco. The things you do set off a chain reaction that is hard to believe.
Would I do it again..... in a heart beat. I am actually considering selling this car to start a new build. Right now I enjoyed the build more than driving it. Don't get me wrong I REALLY enjoy the driving of it, but the build was the ultimate.
There are some amazing buys out there which makes the decission harder.
