Hi everyone.

I just joined the forum yesterday. I know very little about these great cars but I am looking forward to learning. Altlhough I had a GT 350 H when I was a kid, my experience has been with Porsche, Lotus, and Corvettes. All great cars, but IMHO there's one car at the top of the sportscar world. It's time to step up to a Cobra:-). I hope to purchase one in the sometime later this year and join in the fun.

Welcome Mark,
I'm a Corvette and Porsche owner as well as a Cobra....Vette's and Porsche's are great cars but after you drive a Cobra you will find them somewhat boring. There is nothing like the raw power and basics of a Cobra.

Read the various forums and threads and you will learn a lot to prepare you for your future purchase of either a build or an out right purchase. Good Luck!

This is the kind of homework that will get you into trouble with the wife....and the cops...if your not careful...
are you interested in buying a running car or are you willing to go through the toils of building one ???

Like the guys said, welcome to Club Cobra !

Best bet is to go to some local CC events and talk people & look at their cars to see what you like ... and you will also meet some very nice folks in the process.

Lots of great cars and a 'used' car is a good value. Even if you wind up buying a or building 'new' car, always good to do lots of homework before pulling the trigger.

Hello Mark & Everyone! I'm a new kid on the block and just recently pulled the trigger on a new one. All I can say is, "Really do a Lot of Homework"! .......... Oh my, thank God for Club Cobra and many of the people here who have saved my BACON!

Mark, You are doing things in the right order. Learn first buy later

. I did it the other way around

. There is a lot of info on this site and of course many people who have some prejudice that their choice was the "correct" choice. Good luck and good hunting. Any Cobra will be a competely differant driving experience for you. Welcome to Club Cobra.

Thanks for the posts everyone. It's good to be welcome.

If I had the ability to build one I would, but I don't. So buying a good used car would probably be best. A high quality, high reving small block for the street and occasional trackday would suit me fine.

I plan to start shopping in the fall. By then I should have a basic understanding of these cars. There seems to be a great diversity of chasis and drivetrains. That's teriffic, but lots to learn.

Looking forward to meeting the Cobra community here in Las Vegas.

Mark, welcome and I echo the words above about doing your homework. I'll also add something that many, including some of our friends on here, have found difficult. Try not to form such an allegance to any one company that you overlook their faults and can't see the positives in others. Every one of them has positives and negatives and you need to determine what fits best for you. I say this after building several kits from different manufacturers in between other OEM restorations. I've built:

Classic Roadsters Sebring MX (Austin Healey reproduction)
Outlaw Performance 1941 Willys Coupe
Performance Engineering Ferrari California 250GT
Factory Five Daytona Coupe
RCR GT40 Mk 1
Now waiting the arrival of a Kirkham 289 FIA

Like I said, no one manufacture is perfect for everyone. You have to decide what works best for you. Welcome and good luck!

That's really good advice to keep an open mind to all the different companies offering these cars. Lots of engine choices too. Lots to know. Lots to learn, lots of info on the forum. I think this is going to work out fine.
