Default And so it begins...

Hi all. Chris here. Wanted one of these since I was a kid. Worked on a few FF ones and others over the years. Worked on a few Lotus Super 7 replicas lately, and decided it was time I built something for me.
I'm a welding consultant/Fabricator, so I'm going to do my own frame. Ended up here after looking around as a guest for quite some time. Seen enough that I have decided I will build a Cobra instead of the 7.
The looks of a cobra have always had me...
The combo will be a strange one, so bare with me. BMW powerplant and likely drivetrain, and a very unique frame build.
I'm here to learn and bounce stuff off of the crowd as I go, but I'm always up for helping others where I'm useful.
So, I'm looking for a body to start, then I'll grab the donor when I find the right one.
Cheers

Hi Chris! Sounds like a cool project. I'm also completing my kit now...basically just the detailed things like mirrors, emblems, interior, etc. I'm not sure if I'll be able to help with much advice, but feel free to ask.

My kit is a Midstates, so my vote on a body would be a Shell Valley. They purchased Midstates and are currently using the Midstates mold for the body. I think it looks the nicest, but everyone has their own opinions on the body styles.

Good luck!
Fritz

Welcome to the forum. I've always admired guys willing and able to take on a scratch build.

Even if it is a 'non-traditional' build.

Here is a photo of a friend's twin turbo V12 BMW engine in his Cobra.

Keep us posted!

John

9Bells, We are developing a spreadsheet of Cobra Manufacturers and engines. You can download the Excel spreadsheet at:
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0BzD...XhNMWpHTmFRQTg

Take a look and if you want to add anything make the changes and email me the spreadsheet at WFridrich@comcast.net and I will upload it.

Thanks,
