Hi, Brian
Did it look like this, or did they clean it up a bit? My Superformance has been through several upstate NY winters (being driven as a daily driver), and I have driven her over 80,000 miles since 2001. A true testament to the design and quality of the SPF.

After I get her back, she probably won't see the snow again, though...

Have fun checking out these cars. Hope to see you in YOUR Cobra soon!

Jim,

Brian thought we were kidding when I told him you drive it almost every day. Then I told him about Hal Copple and his 135,000 miles of year round driving!

He was impressed with how well your car has weathered the hard use it has had. Of course it was parked between a brand new chassis and an older FFR that is being stored, your car was the "missing link"!

Jim,
Car was quite clean and had a very nice cover on it. (did make a mental note of that too as I have another car back home that requires that attention)
As for ... seeing the exceptional difference with the superperf. product your car has stood the test and looks great!!
.. Now to crunch some $....................

Wow.. and I really like black....................

yikes..

It has been 2 years now since she has seen the snow, and after a lot of work has cleaned up quite nicely.

I will say that driving a Cobra in a couple of inches of snow or slush is quite the exciting ride! The stories I could tell.....

Side curtains WILL freeze up, which makes getting in and out of the car an interesting proposition. You have to leave them partially open all the time, and avoid getting splashed by any passing 4x4 trucks on the highway. Sooo, you try not to get passed. I did say it was an exciting couple of years!

And the Yokohama Avids do suprisingly well as snow tires :-)
Have fun choosing your Cobra,
Jim

Going to be looking at a car serial # in the 1400 range.
...
What would one be looking for in respect to upgrades?
Shock mounts?
Shocks...

Did the steering linkage remain the same on these cars?

being a near 10 year old car.. I can handle looking at the maintenance items, Tires/brakes..lines...

Just wanting to know what updates/upgrades that have been amended since the early builds.

The steering is the same as current chassis specs as are the rest of suspension parts. The rear shock mount inspection is needed if the upgrade has not been done. The shocks on a 1400 series car should be the Bilsteins are are fine for general use. Look at the date codes on the tires, anything older than six years should be replaced. I would do a full service, flush the brake and clutch systems with new DOT 4 fluid, change the diff oil, etc. so you know what you are working with.

The major changes since 1400 are the ZF differential and some wiring changes. The car will be 90% the same as a new build.

Anyone else have any words of wisdom on an earlier SPF model car?
--

The owner states it has a 351 Cleveland.......(not my 1st choice).. (and I never see that motor in these cars...)

allegedly low mileage car.. but for any used car 10 years old everything would need gone thru... maybe for the right price a good starting point? then do the upgrades over the winter?

Just thinking about the journey you started a year ago in your search for a Cobra... Glad you were able to pick up your dream car and happy to meet you at WGI and see you hit the track for a couple of laps at the Vintage Grand Prix!!!

If you are anything like the rest of us here, you will probably be out in the garage this winter more than a couple of times, just "checking" to be sure the Cobra is still there, ready for next spring

And I hope to be out at WGI next year with the Cobra instead of the Spyder!
All the best,
Jim

Jim,
Yes the journey on this 'forum' a year ago.. and Wow.. a great one. Meeting folks like YOU.. and yes I believe I met some of your family as well; you are blessed!!

I was 'at the right place at the right time' this summer for my car purchase for sure, but the learning curve .. and reading and 'listening' to every elses.. thoughts and aspirations is what I truly enjoy about this forum.

Jim.. I hope you get your car back sooon.. .get some studded snows... (we got our first snow here today).. .and start enjoying the thrills again VERY soon!!
