Finally got my Cobra after 25 years of lusting
2 Attachment(s)
Got my Superformance Cobra last month after 25 years of lusting and 10 years of actively searching. Couldn't pull the trigger because I didn't have enough garage space but I moved into a new house with twice the garage space and ended up buying my car during my move.
I guess the saying that good things come to those who wait is true because the car I bought was nicer than anything I saw during the 10 year search. I'm located in Iowa and the car arrived in early December, which was unusually mild. I got to drive it 3 days before I had to put into storage for the winter. Looking forward to the coming driving season. |
Congrats on the new Cobra, it's gorgeous!! That's a long wait but definitely worth it. Wow... only got to drive it for 3 days before storing?? This is going to be a long winter after that 3 day teaser. Enjoy your new baby but be careful. A good respect for it's power is a very good thing as they can be a handful.

Congrats on your beautiful car! Great pictures.

That is one sweet ride!! What is the SPO number?
|
Beautiful car - welcome to the group.:)

SPO number
Chassis number is 1782. The guy I bought it from treated it as a show car. He bought it in 2004 and only put 1860 miles on it in 11 years. As it turned out, a friend of mine who owns a body shop only lived 30 miles from the car (in SC). He agreed to go look at the car for me as a condition of sale.
Being a body and paint guy, I figured he would give it a critical eye and let me know what he thought. He couldn't contain himself when he told me the car was literally perfect. He said he had never seen a car look so good. |
I assume those are the original tires. Do yourself a BIG favor and replace them with new tires and something other than the BFG T/As. Your life will thank you later.

THAT is a beautiful car. Congrats and enjoy

Congratulations. Beautiful car. Put as many miles on it as you can.
I also agree with putting on the best tires you can. Avons are worth it, and look great also. |
Wow. Hell of a first post!
She presents really well. Colour looks great. Congrats. Oh yeah... Welcome! Drive often, and post even more so. :) |
Congratulations. That is one beautiful car and you will have a great time with it. I also agree with getting some better tires. Those are great for shows, but for driving they aren't the best by far.

Enjoy. Looks like a nice car. Be mindful of loose grit on the road and cold tires/road surfaces during those early spring rides. Slow acceleration and do not floor it until you get a good feel for the car. They tend to take off rather quickly and the rear-end can come around on you in a hurry.

Congrats!
Nice color and I am sure at the very hint of weather - you will be out and about. Tru |
Congratulations - looks great!

Great story! I'm glad you stuck to your goal and then waited for the right car. It looks magnificent. I really like that colour.
I bet you can't wait to get it out on the road again! |
First driving impressions
The three days I got to drive it in December only had temperatures in the high 40s. I was surprised how well the heater worked.
I was also surprised that the suspension was a little softer than I expected. I've had a Pantera and Porsche 944T for 29 and 26 years and both are stiffer than the Cobra. I only noticed how much suspension travel there was going over some dips in the road. From reading the owners manual I gather the shocks aren't adjustable. When I get it out of storage I'll put it on the lift and check out the bottom side. Almost like waiting for Christmas morning to come :). |
Gorgeous car. Congrats.

That is a great car with a beautiful color combo.
I have a tip for you, a very serious tip. This is very similar to my own experience in acquiring mine but there is one critical thing you must do. This is a high performance car and even with lots of experience you may or may not have you must assume nothing. By this I mean before you really get out there and enjoy it, repeat BEFORE, get it up on stands with the wheels off and from one end to the other, go through all the running gear, suspension, brakes, axles, front, back, middle, and made damned sure everything is tightened to spec and secure. Go through everything and paint mark everything for reference. This will insure no unexpected surprises, some of which can destroy your investment and yourself. Remember these are hand built cars, that bounce, vibrate, and may still be subject to human error. It's cheap insurance and a great way to get to know it in detail. |
Just a beautiful car and congratulations. Welcome aboard!
I agree with all comments above as far as checking it underneath, tires and taking it easy to learn the car. For tires, AVON all the way! |
