I would think the OP would be happier with "standard" or "typical" rather than "stock".

A 4.6 or 5.0 Coyote is an unusual engine to put in a Cobra replica. Because of this, stock or no, there will be some weirdness involved with those kinds of "stock" builds.

The standard, or typical build involves a 302 or 5.0 SBF (really the same thing, for our purposes) with a four barrel carb and a T5z five speed transmission. Dead simple, and easy to work on. I'd also say for simplicity and economy sake, a straight or live axle might be something he's interested in. If the car doesn't have power steering, air conditioning, stereo, or other extra wired appliances, it should be stone cold simple to construct and maintain.

In effect, these cars are just big go-karts with a plastic body kit. If you look at it that way, they are much less intimidating.

BTW, that Summit 347 is a Blueprint of ATK crate engine. Blueprint offers a 347 "kit" with everything you need to put in a FFR replica, and the 347 is just a 302 with a bigger stroke; nothing that changes the recipe I describe above.

BTBTW, there are four basic families of Ford powerplants for these cars. 302, 351, FE and 385-series engines.

302 also includes 306, 331, 347 and 363. 351 includes 357, 392, 408 and 427w. FE includes 352, 390, 410, 427, 428, 431, 445 and 482. 385 series includes 429, 460 and a buttload of bigger versions. Your car or mechanic really can't tell the difference, installation wise as to what cubic inch displacement your engine is, though your butt definitely will when you hit the loud pedal.

The most common engines you see are going to be 302 and 351 based. I would consider the FE and 385 series to be "specialist" engines, though the FE came stock in the 3xxx series of Cobra.

Those Cobras for under 25 would be a good place to start....

if I ever have another built, I will go slab side with a box stock 289...we all have different wants and needs....I have no need for 500 hp nor do I have any desire to "work" on a car.

I think I read in that same magazine (Reincarnation) in a later edition that Factory Five is now offering a turn key with stock 4.6 Ford ??
