Default New guy in Kentucky

Hi all -

My name is Jeff and I have been wanting a Cobra for as long as I can remember (Baby boomer). Finally due the kids grown I now have the opportunity to build my dream car. So I will hopefully, with all these posts, will build one correctly and avoid pitfall$ due to my lack of knowledge in these cars. I am no stranger to 60's muscle cars and own a 67 mustang that was built in the Shelby shop back in California.
I am not afraid to ask stupid questions and am looking forward on the advice building my first one.

Thanks

Jeff

We can hook you up with members of the Ky Cobra Club.

Great bunch of gals and guys. Attend one of their monthly get togethers and sit / ride in different Cobras.

I don't have a clue what brand. The only requirement I have is that I can fit in one. I am 6"4" 215 lbs and have never even sit in one.. All I know is it was love at first sight when I saw my first back in the late 60's.

Right now I am in the research stage, then I will start building one as soon as I get a lift installed in the new house. Looking forward on hearing suggestions and gaining knowledge form you all.

When you say 'build' do you mean:
  1. install the engine and transmission in a 'roller';
  2. start with frame, body and boxes of parts; or
  3. something else?

Answering this fundamental question will start to narrow down your list of marques to consider.

Juan when is KCC next get together?

I'll drive the Fairlane up. It has roll up windows and no AC. Rain doesn't matter. I've got wipers that work.

Full disclosure, I'm biased toward Factory Five (FFR). I found the company great to work with and they made the order and delivery of my MKIII a great experience. I picked FFR for the community support from the official site thefactoryfiveforum.com and the unofficial site ffcars.com. More FFRs have been built than any other brand. 1000's of builders with experience that can be referenced. More after-market custom parts are made for the FFR than any other brand, which helps in customizing the car to reflect your version of a Cobra. For me the journey of the build has been great.

Kids out of the house, free time! find one already done, way better then you would do on your own. Then you can spend your free time working on the already built car that you can once in a while drive. That is what I did .How"s that for stupid.F.Y.I. I would do it all over again

I would also give rollers serious consideration.

1) the build quality and paint cannot be matched for the cost. Installing the powertrain can be enough of a challenge

2) owning these cars is like flying an airplane while building it. You'll have plenty of projects per mile.

PS - Backdraft rollers have an extra three inches of wheelbase and legroom. Oh, that's not authentic - never mind
