Default Hello everyone from Spain

Hi everyone!!

I introduce myself, my name is Jordi, I am and I live in Spain.

My son, a couple of weeks ago, asked me if we could make a car (he is a car lover with 14 years old). I have proposed to make a 427 cobra with him. At least restore it, obviously I mean to restore a kit.

I am here to learn from all of you, I am a total and absolute newbie. My son and I have set a limit of 2 years to do this project, we plan to even record the entire process. And why? Because we are seeing that there is NOTHING in Spain! Very few cobras and an approval system that makes it impossible unless you approve it as a historical vehicle, and of course it must be over 30 years old and have its frame number.
I don't know if there is any Spanish around here, but it would be nice to know and try to put together what little there is in Spain.

Forgive the text so long, and for me it is a pleasure to be with you.

P.D: Sorry for my English.

Welcome! Your project goal is admirable. I wish my son was interested in cars. I heartily recommend buying a car that is finished but possibly not used for a while. If you get something like that you can sort all the minor things that happen from sitting around. Being away from the parts supply will make everything an adventure. A lot of the Cobra stuff is made in England so that might help you out. You're close enough to go pick things up from time to time...like a complete car.

Good luck with your project and welcome aboard, there are a lot of knowledgeable people here. Having to find a car that is at least 30 years old might be difficulties there were not as many cobra kits around then and finding an un finished one might be hard.

Welcome. There was a fellow on site from Germany, not long ago.

I spent quite a bit of time in Strasbourg, France area between 1985 and last year. About a dozen visits several weeks to a couple months at a time. I saw quite a few Kit Cars in that area, however none were Cobra's. From that I assume Germany, France, and Switzerland allow kit cars. I have no idea how hard or easy it is to do. Anyway you may want to look for advertisements of these cars in those countries, if you cannot find anything local.

The 30-year requirement is going to be a tough nut to crack. It's very difficult to find Cobra replicas in Europe because of import regulations of age. The other factor in that is that it is unlikely that someone is going to find an importable candidate (the window rolls backward), bring it in with all the VAT expenses, and then let it sit so that it's got some additional age that makes it a rebuild candidate again.

That said, there should be plenty of cars available for this kind of project. I've seen some true kits that were not well built and could use some TLC (mostly body work) that would seem to be a good candidate for this kind of project. I'd suggest keeping an eye here in the classified ads and also monitoring www.cobracountry.com. Places like autotrader.com and ebay also get older kits on occasion. It's not an impossible search, just one that will require a fair amount of patience.

Does it get easier for you if the car comes from Canada?

Good luck!!!

Bienvenido Jordi. Finally, an enthusiast for Cobras. It is not easy to find like-minded people in Spain. I am living in Denia / Alicante.

Thank you!!.

Yes, the truth is that my son's interest fills me with pride, he also likes robotics and is an athlete ... He doesn't look like my son !!! hahahahahaha

Thank you for your suggestion, but we want to build it, or failing that, take an unfinished kit, which I am also looking at.
I will tell you here!

Thank you for your wise advice !, I am aware, it can be difficult, although in this last week I have already seen 2 unfinished kits that met the characteristics ... It is a matter of waiting, we are not in a hurry, hurry is the direct enemy of this class of projects. Thanks for everything!!

Thank you !!, I will look in those countries, until now I was focusing on the UK.
Finding something in Spain is literally impossible. The only one there is a friend of mine, he has it for sale for 50 K. But I can not spend that money suddenly and also I would not teach my son anything, which is my main motivation.

Thanks for your tips!

Hombre!!, Tu Alicantino y Yo Valenciano, ajjajaj

One more I know!, It would be good to form some kind of group or something similar of cobra lovers in Spain! First as a WhatsApp or telegram group and then we are already watching.

What do you think??

I just saw another new person on this site from France. He was saying some of the same laws you were talking about. Perhaps these new restrictions are an EU thing.
