a98: Reportedly cause of fire was a fuel line fitting came loose. This happened before I got the car, so I can't say for sure.

Probable cause of the engine fire had to be simple and I would concur that something had to be loose.

I love the dedication and patience for a well job done.

Motorhead,
I'm very interested in the spec. of your engine. I am also in the process of planning a Shelby aluminium stroker for my Kirkham to replace the old iron 427 side oiler. What is the bore, stroke, cam spec. of your motor? Also which heads are you using? Shelby or Edelbrocks? Do you know the valve sizes? I noticed that you have changed from a 4 bbl to Webers, but did you have the Webers set up on a dyno? I would be interested to learn how they perform on your engine.
Many thanks
Stuart

A98: Nothing really exotic about the engine:
Shelby block, std(4.250) bore. FE 428 crank (3.98 stroke) for 452 c.i.
Arias pistons, H beam rods, edelbrock heads with the big valves, roller tip rockers, Comp cam and hyd roller lifters, cam part # 33-000-9, custom grind from Barry Robnick. Hi volumn oil pump, Aviaid road race pan, fidanza alum f'wheel, Romac balancer. HM webber manifold cut to 10 deg angle, with plenum fitted to underside for vacumn for future F.I.
Oh ,almost forgot: 10.5 compression.
After I get some miles on it I'll get it on a chassis dyno for tuning.
best regards,
Ted
