Glen,
Great looking layout, your research pays off once again to come up with custom dash for AP2289 that has key elements of period CSX cars, but is unique to your cobra. What will be used for the base structure of the dash, sheet metal or fiberglass? Have you specified or sourced the dash cover material?

Well thanks Tim....I had some good quality research assistance
Dash structure and covering decided? I'm happy to go with whatever AP suggest here, but given their 'fetish' for cold, hard aluminium alloy, I'm thinking that material would a good bet.
Dash covering....black leather would be nice, but I'll talk it over with Craig.

Cheers,
Glen

Default More body mod pictures:

If you recall the story so far, the front half was roadster configured ex-Bruce. Splashes have been taken on the areas that would change (roadster guard/fender shape and the 'no-oil-cooler-scoop' area) so that those roadster features can be easily replicated for future roadster builds.
Now AP have moved on to modding those areas.
The oil cooler scoop is well under way, but what you see here isn't the final shape. As we see it at the moment, AP are just checking to see how the size of it will blend into the front of the body and then they will do the final shaping on the scoop itself.
The front guards have been changed to the FIA shape, with plenty of trimming allowance added, allowing for adjusting back and providing a strong trimmed edge.

Cheers,
Glen

Default Engine trial fit

Still from last week....

Trial fit of an SBF (not mine) just to make sure we have sufficient bonnet/hood clearance.
Even though the 427 and 289 shapes are very similar in a lot of areas, and a 427 bonnet will fit onto my body, it pays to double check clearances

(No shot available of the body on though)

Cheers,
Glen

Here are the latest shots in the development of AP2289's FIA body.
The body is back from being painted after significant mods to the front section to create the FIA-style front guards/fenders and to add an oil cooler scoop.
This body will in effect form the 'positive' for the creation of the mould, hence the extended guards front and rear that will allow trimming back for a strong trimmed edge.

The fronts will lose approximately half of that extension width, and the rears will lose almost all of the extension width. (Craig and Warren, please feel free to correct me if I have any of this wrong )

Nose shot:
The oil cooler scoop has been added. What shows here is not the final shape. How it blends into the body is representative, but the final shaping on the scoop is still to be done.
What we will end up with is a scoop style like the later original FIA – CSX 2431, 2345 etc.

More as it happens!

Cheers,
Glen

Thanks Dean. Agreed, they are a talented lot up there. Craig started with a generally acknowledged 'good' body from Bruce C., and he's done a lot of work on it since.
I'm very much looking forward to the body going onto the chassis and the chassis suspension and wheels being added so they can 'tune' it to get that 'AP' stance. After that....the chassis is painted!

Cheers,
Glen

AP2289 now has its correct oil cooler scoop....

Its guards/fenders are correct for creating the mould. They will be then be trimmed back to 'FIA spec'.

Here's a close-up of the scoop...

Nice job, Craig and the boys and girls at AP!

Cheers,
Glen
