Finishing the insulation in the tunnel. Tight spot for access, but worked out OK.

Glen,

You need higher jack stands! It looks like that car is sitting just inches above you. Awful tight place to be working.

Higher off the floor would be a little easier, agreed. For the most part though, I'm sitting on the floor in the engine bay and just reaching into the tunnel to install the insulation.
That's it for the sheet insulation, but there are stainless steel panels still to be fitted over the insulation on the firewall and the footboxes.

Cheers,
Glen

This week's update...

Working on the dash and gauges. That horizontal crossmember behind the dash that I had to work around for the glovebox is causing 'challenges' for my speedo as well. All other gauges fit OK, but having to use an adaptor to 'move' the location of the speedo a little lower to clear that tube.
My story is that the adaptor that I'll have to make adds to that modified ex-racer look of the dashboard.

Cheers!
Glen

Can't just notch out the cross member for clearance?

Cheers

From memory the tube is around 30mm diameter and I would have to notch out around 12mm or thereabouts to clear the speedo cable.
It's a structural member, so don't want to do that. I don't want it to bite me back one day

Cheers,
Glen

Hey Gary!

Yes, it's mechanical ....hey, it's a Cobra (replica)....we don't use that modern electrical stuff on gauges.
Yes, the gauge is decades old, and exactly as used on FIA cars.

If it's ever actually connected up (the gauge), my engine will need to be carb'd, not EFI....which I hope to be able to do eventually (carb fueled) if our SA club is successful in it's negotiations with the state rego boys.
....and if so, no, for safety, the fuel will not go any further south than the firewall, so should be quite safe enough to satisfy my compliance engineer, as well as me

Cheers,
Glen

JD,

If I go the 'standard engine' route, there's a simple idle emissions check and a noise check as my engine is ADR37/01 compliant. Easy.

If I go the 'carb' route, it would most probably require multiple dyno tuning sessions, and then an IM240 test. Expensive. One of our club members has done this, and it was a long, long road. Again....expensive.

As I mentioned previously, our club is in conversation with our state DPTI regarding emissions (and other) standards for ICVs; with a degree of luck, we may gain some worthwhile concessions that would allow carbies to be used. I'm not looking for power, I'm looking for something that looks more period correct than a modern EFI sitting on top of the engine

Cheers,
Glen

Just kidding ...it's still happening.

The SS firewall sheet is now back in, and I'm working on fitting the SS panels that cover the aft part of the engine bay.

Cheers!

Might seem to be a backward step to 'de-polish' SS heat shields.... but it's just too shiny for a Cobra....

Glen,

You do attend to detail that others may pass on addressing. Looks nice, but I bet you some day you are going to regret it. There will be something down low that you want to see that a little extension mirror will not reach, and you will say, "Damn, I shouldn't have scuffed up that nice shiny stainless steel."

Keep up the good work.

Jim

Jim,
To quote Mr. Joel..."You may be right, I may be crazy" and/or "You may be wrong for all I know, but you may be right"

....I'm just thinking of the horror of lifting the hood and getting my reflection back at me from half a dozen mirror-finished panels. Enough to drive a man to another beer

Here's cheers!
Glen

I've covered making/installing a footrest elsewhere in a separate thread.
I'm adding the 'result' here as well to include it in the build thread...

Nice to be here again

Been working on my front inner guards.
I thought this would be easy but I think the panels supplied were to suit the profile of 427 guards, so long story short, it took a long time, and only the left side so far.

Here the outer view....
