Blas, appreciated and noted. The battery will be securely restrained with the two straps, and there is approx. 2"-3" gap between the battery and the footrest/battery cover.
Also, I have stuck a rubber sheet to the rear side of the footrest/battery cover

Cheers!

So, already established that I have more than adequate room in the passenger's footwell, enough to be able to hide the battery in there.

I added - with not a little amount of time consumed - a small platform for the battery to sit on. Didn't want it sitting on the floor for a number of practical reasons.

So, this is what I came up with....

Attachment 37635

Then, pulling out the 'vice bender', made up an easily removable panel to hide and safeguard the battery.....

Attachment 37636

Here's the footrest sitting in place. Four screws to easily release the panel from the angle bracket behind it for access to the battery....

Attachment 37637

Cheers!

I rode in a car that was similarly equipped, and it was very uncomfortable. If a tall passenger cannot stretch his/her legs straight out it will be a disaster on anything more than a very short trip. Just a thought, as it is not possible to tell from the photos. Your work is awesome, Glen!

Thanks Paul.
My footboxes are very deep, and I would probably have needed to include a footrest on the passenger side had I not decided to locate the battery there.
I'm tall, and I can sit there quite easily.

Cheers,
Glen

Glen,

Great solution to a challenging problem and your fabrication skills are top notch, especially when one considers your creative use of the tools & equipment that you have at hand.

Have you given any provision for ventilation of the battery? Some batteries come with a vent / drain tube for use in enclosed spaces. I would suspect some level of ventilation would be a good idea.

Tim,

Yes, tasks that are challenging because of a lack of equipment and space in the home garage often require "creative use of tools and equipment" ....but then a little thought can turn out results that, while not professional, are not unprofessional

Now, to ventilation. Here's another picture of the footwell with the panel sitting in position...

Name: Footrest_in_place2.jpg
Views: 393
Size: 90.6 KB

There is around 4'' to 5'' gap above the top of the footrest panel that can't be seen from the passenger seat, so not a problem for ventilation.

Further venting/drainage.... as it's not a sealed area, that's not a problem in itself. I do however already have a drain hole (shielded on the underside of the chassis to prevent moisture ingress) in each footwell, main purpose being for stormwater drainage.

Keep the comments coming. I often miss a detail and have to redesign or rework a feature.

Cheers!

Hi Glen
We just done a 1000k trip in the Fia and the wife did comment on how good the large footwell was to stretch out.
Just a thought.
I put the battery behind the Passenger seat.

Cheers

Hi Brett,

So, 1000km in the car in one trip? Well done! Did any shake-down items turn up that might interest me?

Interesting comment about the passenger-side leg room. As mentioned previously, there's sufficient room for me to "passenger" there, but because of my height, not for 1000km .....but then I wouldn't need to

Cheers,
Glen

Default Backwards & Upside-down world.

Hi Glen, flawless work, as we have come to expect from you Well done sir! As I was looking at the pictures, it occurs to me the battery, it's on the driver's side . Just teasing. Speaking of upside down, and backwards, I believe I've found my errors, with taking pictures, it seems to be (Me) being left-handed, and owning a (Right-Handed Phone): confused: Latest pictures from Tiger Mike's home, and a quick tour of Port Townsend, Terry's newest Daytona (The old Coupe just sits, so now looking for a new home) So nice to see yours coming along my friend, Cheers Tom.

Hi Glen
The only thing is without sound deadening and no carpet, there is a lot of heat generated through the footwells as well as every clunk echoes through the Chassis, but hey, it's a Cobra.

Cheers

Glen,

Your car is coming along really well, finish line is well within site. I believe that if you take your time, be meticulous, thorough, logical and have great attention to detail in your build, which you clearly have done, you will have very few if any shake down issues.
Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Richard

Thanks Richard; comments appreciated.

I'm actually just waiting for there to be a clear day weather-wise (nearly 2" of rain in the last 24 hours, as you would well know ) and also finding somebody to transport the car, and it will then go to my mechanic's workshop for the engine and gearbox to go in.
Any suggestions for car transport in Adelaide?

Cheers!
Glen

Unfortunately no recommendations, but I have major trust issues when it comes to my Cobra, I hired a trailer and did it myself. I have all the tie down
straps if you want to borrow them.

Generous, thanks Richard .... but for a number of reasons, I'll get a contractor to do the transporting.

Cheers!

I've added a length of square tubing in the tunnel for fore-aft wiring to be easily and safely routed....
