Searching for a CSX 4000 series
Hello all,
First of all, I want to thank everyone for a great site. I've learned a tremendous amount in a short time. I've been watching for a little while looking for the right Shelby Cobra to appear for sale. Unfortunately, my budget appears to be below what most people are asking. I am willing to spend $75,000+/- for a finished CSX 4000 series car. If there is anyone out there who is willing to consider selling their car, please feel free to email me at chrisadlam@earthlink.net. Thanks in advance for your help. Chris |

There is a CSX 4000 series glass car that has been just relisted on ebay (for the fifth time). Opening bid is $70,000. Not my color preference, but it might be yours. I know the builder, HRE Motors, they do great work. Best of luck. jim v. |
If I'm not mistaken, this CC member has/had a CSX for sale.

Jim and ST,
Thanks for your replies. The orange car is not my particular color of choice either - and CSX 4241 has a 428 motor instead of a 427. I really appreciate the leads tho. Thanks, Chris |
I doubt you will find a completed CSX4000 w/ a 427 for 75K. Yes, my CSX4241 has a 428 but with low miles and tons of torque and fits within your budget range.

Finding a complete car within your specs might be difficult. I've been looking for months now. So I get frustrated and think about going new until I re-read (the posts)about all the trouble guys are having here with the CA DMV.

You are looking for a fiberglass car, are you not?

For that price it will have to be a glass car. Also I wish him luck in finding one with a vintage 427. But you never know.

You should be able to build a new glass Shelby for around that price. As far as I know though, no one has gotten one and I understand there is a backlog if you order now. Even going this route, it will be very difficult to get a 427 in the car for that price.
|
You could always go with a Kirkham and with the new "glass" car they are producing, you will get a lot of "bang for your buck"...:)
|
I understand that if you order a glass 427 roller from Shelby right now, you are looking at the end of 2004 for delivery. It is possible to find a dealer that has a customer that has backed out of a deal, but the spot is still open for one of the glass rollers, so the wait may not be that long. I know that this has happened with www.newportshelbycobras.com recently. You never know until you ask. Give Newport a call!
|
...............do yourself a favor and don't call "newport shelby cobras" as a former customer i'm giving this advise!
|
Let's not be bitter, John. Newport Shelby Cobras is very capable of handling the customers needs if they are valid.
|
Sounds like a dog fight brewing?
|
No, not at all. It's just that csx700? is not happy with Shelby and I am very satisfied with Newport Shelby Cobras. csx700? is caught in a unique situation. You know the saying, "you can't please all the people all the time, but..." It's an ugly world out here!

slither
your one to talk, i've heard your stories and you've seen and actually been involved when they (newport shelby cobras) picked up my vehicle and parts for warranty related repairs, actually it was that time that some of the parts turned up "lost" and i am having to replace at my own expense. slither i am ONLY giving advise on MY experience with them........... |
I hear ya, csx700?. Your points are valid. But...they have treated me quite well along the way. I can now say that my car is perfect with no complaints. However, had I have known...
|
Thanks to all for the responses. I think you are right. Finding a completed car for $75K+/-, may be like finding a needle in a haystack.
I am disappointed to hear about Newport. I've spoken to them a few times, and I'm feeling like getting a car from them may be my only option. I live in Southern California, and don't really want to buy from too far away. Has anyone had any experiences (good or bad) with any other semi-local dealers? Again, thanks to everyone for their input. It truly seems like when you get a Cobra, you join a family. |
PV COBRA, don't let any of the negative responses about Newport Shelby Cobras dissapoint you. They will give you 100% and will not promise you anything that they won't deliver. Have you spoken with Dave Parcell? He is very knowledgable about the current status of the SA cars. Plus, he may even know of a used car for sale. At least call him.
|
I didn't think I could find an ERA with a 427 side oiler at "my price" either. But I did,,,,,, it took about a freakin' year, but I did!
Smiling now! |
