I know I would love to see more of your car. I am sure that selling is analogous to losing a loved one. I know its just a car but what a car!

Ever considered a video made by you about the car?

My computer started to play the video OK, but after a while, I saw lips moving, but nobody talking, just background music.

Has anyone been able to view the video successfully?

Yes, I did, this morning. I'm assuming you have broadband? When the video comes on, the volume is set fairly high. Once you get to the interviews, it goes way down. At that point, you'll probably have to increase your sound volume.

It's a 16 minute clip, that is a 37 meg file...the server is not very 'robust'

You are much better off to go to the site thru Hal's link...then find the View Video link on the website..then, right-click on the link and choose Save Target As... to download the file to your hard drive, then play it back, offline.

Thats what I did, 'Save Target As..'. Even the download took a while, I simply surfed some other sites and let it slowly download on it's own. Once the download starts you can even close the Web page completely and go on and do something else.

Hal that was SO weird hearing about how your original plans were to make it a 'street' car. Understanding that 'back in the day' it was just another used race car. Put in a milder motor, return the steering to stock, etc. WOW! History dodged a bullet there.

Actually, while the stock worm-and-sector steering wasn't the greatest, I could easily have lived with that. The biggest obstacle was the cam. Virtually nothing below 3,000 RPM, and all hell breaking loose at around 3,200. You had to constantly watch the tach in any corner to make sure you always stayed above or below that. Difficult to do in city traffic.

Out in the country, the headers were what made life miserable. The Ballengers came to within two inches of the firewall. They were so close that the Shelby crew removed the boot around the steering column. Probably got tired of the smell of burning leather. That wasn't a problem in drag racing, where the whole show ended in seconds. But on the open road, that red-hot header a couple of inches from your left big toe . . . well, you get the idea.

Where history really dodged the bullet though was when I decided to repaint the car back around 1980. I had lost track of Randy Berry, the previous owner, but found him when I saw one of his ads for the Marauder Company. When I called, I casually mentioned that I planned to paint the Dragonsnake the same candy-apple red as my new 1978 Honda CBX motorcycle. I loved that paint. He said, "I don't think you want to do that. I never touched the car. That's the original Shelby paint."

The paint stayed. Blemishes and all.

Hal...that is precisely the reason I am thankful, to this day, that I did not buy the Cobra I almost bought in the 60's.

I know to my toes I would have painted it Corvette Blue, whacked a hole in the dash for an 8-track....and then, either would have summarily died in it while racing on the Clearview Expressway....or be riddled with remorse for the rest of my life, for having sold it two years later for half what I paid for it.

I am so glad I waited until I grew up.

Hey, SCOBRAC, if you are still interesting in partial ownership, I could probably throw in a couple hundred dollars and be willing to store the car in my garage.

I assume the car runs, so I could drive it to my place in Pennsylvania. That would probably be less miles than driving to CA.

Ernie, Im not a big fan of B.J either especially after the way they treated David Kirkham but they do have the limelight on em. I'm mainly interrested in knowing what ticks in the minds of the people at this level seeing that I probably wont ever be in their shoes. If I did have a car of this importance Id have to go with the auction that has historicly been better for Cobra's than any others. The difference could be in the 100s of thousands of dollars. I just went to Mecums website and they havnt posted the results for Dragonsnake.
