Thumbs up PS Engineering Wheels

I had occasion to call on Phil Schmidt (PS) of PS Engineering today after scarring one of my 17" wheels by driving over an intake manifold in my garage.

I called him mid morning and he returned my call within 30 min despite being a man down in the shop. He actually tried to talk me out of buying a whole new wheel, promising to fix my old one with 2 hours of shop time. When was the last time someone did that...

I explained to him that replacing the wheel wasn't a complete waste as I would make repairs to my old wheel and use it as a spare (something we all need). He took pity on my plight promising me a wheel in a few days and even giving me a few dollars off list price.

Despite what has become a $1200 flat I felt pretty good after talking to him, knowing the car will be as good as it was before in a few days.

I continue to be impressed with his work and willingness to get the job done.

Ordered a set of 17" a month or so ago but there was a problem getting castings (plenty of rims, no centers) from the supplier. Sounds like the problem's been solved so think I'll check again when the sun comes up in Calif.

Update - still no word from the supplier but hopefully the centers will be there soon.

I was very happy with my PS wheels. I simply caled and told Phil the maunufacture of my kit and the size of tire I wanted to run and he took it from there.

Wonderful Product at a fair price.

It was really neat to walk through PSE the couple times I had the chance to visit & talk with Phil. He showed me his operation & basically how things went from casting to finished product. He has a very cool business.

Getting the castings seems to be a problem for the past month or two. But, I've still got a set on order in the hopes there's a solution soon.

No, I haven't been to his shop in over a year. It's probably one of those things where you order materials, wait for the suppliers schedule to have an opening & hope it all works out perfectly. In the mean time you pick up a few too many orders for the product you had on order & you end up with a backlog & people waiting nervously.... This is purely a guess...a W.A.G

Still waiting but still nothing on when the castings may become available. Maybe by summer? (still have my order in and shipping was prepaid by ERA back in March). Have no idea what the problem is, just hope it's not permanent..........

Lots of info in that catelog about the evolution of the wheels from the early 289's to the late 427s. Thanks

blykins, glad ?? to know I'm not the only one waiting since last Fall. Depends on what you want but at least American Racing is making "custom" wheels that fit a lot of applications and are "reasonable $$$."

Much easier to wait now that I can drive it and just keep my order in at PS as a backup set. I imagine it's more of a problem for PS Engineering not knowing when they'll be able to get castings after all this time.

Thanks Hyde. I didn't know Phil made so many different and interesting wheels. As an ex-machinist, I am sure I would really appreciate a tour of his shop. If I am ever in his neighborhood I will stop by and hopefully find him home. Rich

Default update on back orders?

Can someone please give an update on the back order problem at Team III. I am considering ordering some wheels from them as they are the only ones with a look alike cobra wheel that you can order a custom backspacing.

Thanks
Paul
