Default Beware GE Silicone 2 Caulk

I have had problems with this not curing even with a year before the expiration date. A quick check on line found others reporting the same. One guy said to avoid this like the plague. I know that this is a favorite gasket making material. If you want to use it do a test piece and check it the next day.

I have had that happen with GE Silicone but the tube of caulk was opened and was several months old. I have never experienced it since. This was almost 20 years ago and I was using it on a bath tub drain. I will throw away any leftover material if I can't use it within a couple days. For the car I use the RTV silicone by pematex, many types and colors availible. Check the auto parts store.

Ed Ash (Ash Valley Racing) in southern Oregon first told me that GE Silicone 2 was his choice when he was building my 289. Since he is a well respected NASCAR engine builder I took his advice and started using it exclusively. So to do him a favor I called him today to tell him about my bad experience. He said a few weeks ago he happened to drop the pan on a recent build and found the caulk still soft. He now uses an adhesive silicone caulk from Carquest. Why this stuff is still being sold is a mystery.
