767Jockey,

We've got an offer for your motor, a "Like new" 850 CFM carb with lines and a dual feed. I don't know whether or not to take it for your engine? What are your plans for Carburation? (At your leisure)

767Jockey 09-11-2010 09:43 AM

Ed and everyone,

I apologize for not being very responsive nor prolific lately, it's been a very difficult and wearing week medically. I can't imagine what I'd give for just a small amount of energy!

I need to catch up on all the wonderful best wishes, thoughts, and parts that have been offered to me.

Ed, the carb sounds great. I wonder, however, if it's too big for the lil' old 390 I have been planning now? Perhaps Brent or some of the experienced engine guys who are looking in on this thread can chime in and give their thoughts? I know at least two of the wonderful guys on this thread have mentioned that they may send a carb, so I don't know where we stand on that.

I think I may have found a set of Edelbrock heads. New heads, Manley valves, Crower springs, retainers, keepers, cups, etc. I ran the idea through Brent (and guys, you should all know that Brent has been WONDERFUL with his time and expertise with me). He seems to think that they're good heads, good parts, and a decent price. The guy who owns the heads has offered them to me for $1300. What do you guys think? You all raised the money, I'd like to hear what you think. Building up a set of iron heads would cost only slightly less than this, so I'd have to agree with Brent that this is the way to go.

You guys, and what you're all doing here, is keeping me going. Thanks SO very much!

Doug

That's so wonderful for you to think of me with this, John. I really appreciate it more than I can ever say. Sounds like a really cool magazine, too! Wish we could all see it.:)

Thanks so much!

I just wanted to offer a very large "Thank you" to my friends at Wilwood Eng for their generous donation to Doug's build. I was dropping off an engineering sample today when I was handed a box by the sale manager!
Two 3/4" and one 5/8" master cylinders and a bunch of braided lines.

I"ll be shipping them via ups today.

Best regards

Wow! Can you guys believe this? A second manufacturer donating parts to this? Incredible.....

Jason, please thank your friends at Wilwood for me and tell them that I am so thankful and deeply moved not only by this whole grass roots movement by my Cobra brothers, but by the incredible generosity of the wonderful folks at Wilwood. I have their front brakes on the car, I'm even more thankful for that now.

I'm just stunned by what's happening here, and to have manufacturers such as Wilwood and Kirkham voluntarily chip in to someone like me, it's just overwhelming, it truly is. My thanks to you Jason, and to everyone. This is just getting more incredible by the day.

My throughts and prayers are with Doug/767Jockey......he has a long, arduous road ahead of him. The promise of remission may seem out of reach at times, but patience and courage will prevail.....as will he, hopefully!

Cheers from (another) Doug

Thanks, Doug...
I really appreciate all the kind words. I hope and pray that your wife is completely cured and after the long arduous journey that you have both traveled together that your lives together continue down a far more happy and peaceful path.

I have not yet been cleared to begin radiation therapy, either medically or by the insurance company. This has been a long week of testing, biopsies, and many medical tests and things that I promise you guys you don't even want to know about.....:3DSMILE:
I am exhausted but remain hopeful that I will one day get to drive this car. You guys have no idea the lift that you've given to me, helping me to remain upbeat and have something to look forward to in these dark days. You guys are all just incredible, and I will never be able to adequately thank you. All I can do is say thank you, and have hope that beyond these two simple words you can all understand the gratitude that I feel for each of you. Thanks so much.:)

MY BAD!!!!

The Carb is a 780CFM-Quick Fuel - NOT an 850!!!

Lear jockey bought the mag. And is sending 200.00. He is a cdr. In the USN.go navy.

csx4910 09-13-2010 11:25 AM

For what its worth the 780 Holley will do well on your 390. In my old mustang with a hot rodded 390 I had both a Holley 750 and a 780 and both performed admirably. Sucked fuel like crazy, make great power, just dont go looking for fuel mileage:D

Mbechmann 09-17-2010 11:15 AM

Not sure if this will work, but I just found this one on ebay. Thought that price was really good.

Many many thanks to you John, and to Lear Jockey for doing this. I appreciate it so much. As I begin this journey of (hopefully) recovery from this darned disease, what you guys are doing is truly keeping my spirits up and keeping me going. I so look forward to hopefully driving this car one day. I can't thank all of you enough. I got some less than wonderful news from the Docs this week, so this whole outpouring of kindness and support is coming at a perfect time. Thanks so very much to you all.

That's wonderful, Bob. I truly appreciate it. I'm sure the carb will run great and it will be a joy to drive, thanks to you and all the wonderful guys here on Club Cobra.

Things look like they're really falling into place thanks to all of you. I have to get in touch with the guy who had the Edelbrock heads that I had found. The last few days there hasn't been much done on my end due to medical stuff. Last week and this coming week will be busy and I'll be feeling fairly crummy, but I have to try to call this guy and get the heads on their way. They sound good and $1300 seems like a fair price, no? Once I get in touch with him and get the heads sent out, I should be fairly well set. As far as upper end of the engine, I think all I'll need to buy is a set of rocker shaft end stands and that part of the project should be complete. You guys are amazing, thanks so much to all of you.

Thanks so much, John and Joseph. I had a rough day with the treatment again, and seeing this thread come alive once again is a real lift to my spirits. Guys, as I type this Rick Lake is on his way to pick up the car, and bring it to his house. After a well deserved rest he'll haul it out some time in the future to Summit in Ohio, where "DV" will pick it up and continue on to his place, where the completion will begin. I can't tell you guys what this whole outpouring of support has done to my spirits. I had completely given up on ever seeing this car put together and having a chance to drive it. This is like Christmas every day to see this thread alive again, and to know the incredible Rick Lake is on his way to get the car, to eventually deliver it to the equally incredible ed DV Combs. You guys are all awesome. Thanks so very, very much.

gsharapa 10-02-2010 07:08 AM

You keep focusing on your treatments and getting better and your Cobra buddies will focus on getting your car done and keeping you in our prayers and thoughts!!!!

Double Venom 10-06-2010 08:57 AM

Just got off the phone with Rick....seems like we have run across a small glitch.
Rick is using his trailer to bring Doug's car and parts to Akron (Oh) BUT he has to take the trailer back for immediate repairs! I made the WRONG assumption that Rick was just going to drop his trailer, I would hook up and come to Pentwater with the Cobra and parts, then return it to Akron when the car was done.

Rick also explained how much work has been done on the car and how much is left.....seems it is basically painted and thats it, Steering isn't in, must be steered by grabbing the wheels. No problem at all but getting the car done by Christmas (what I was shooting for) seems out of the question.

Botom line; ANYONE have an enclosed trailer I can use from Akron to Pentwater, until Spring would be great but we'll take anything we can get! Or does someone know of any trailer rental places in the area of either Pentwater or Akron?

DOUG: I've been trying to list all the donated parts and get pictures for you....well that hasn't happened yet, BUT it will soon! Sorry, just trying to get caught up completely in the shop before your car gets here!

Hope all is going well Fella! You WILL be driving this monster soon!

DV

(One glitch!!?? Unheard of!)
