Not to worry!
I'm reading every post....Cleaning out a part of the shop (Now that is fun :) ) for all of 767's parts. I'll photo all the parts when they arrive-nothing yet, but expecting them soon! This puts vinegar in a Ol' mans veins.! (And the wife thought I was going to have a boring winter!) DV |
What did you fellers decide on the cylinder heads?

Nothing obvious has popped up yet. Between shipping back and forth across the country, buying valves, labor, etc....the costs of using a old Ford set of heads are adding up. I'm wondering if it's not better and easier in the long run to just look for a set of Edelbrock heads and be done with it? What are your thoughts on that? Your earlier remark to me about the challenges in dealing with 50+ year old parts and the unforeseen problems that presents really struck home with me. I'm thinking that to get a set located, ship them likely multiple times, buy valves, retainers, keepers, seals etc, then to get them boiled, magged, machined, only to find somewhere in that process that they're cracked or warped, repair that damage, etc.... Now if they needed to be milled, you deal with fitment issues, which is always a challenge on an FE...........perhaps the Edelbrocks are beginning to look cost effective. Your thoughts and expertise on this would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone else has experienced issues along this line, please chime in. Thanks, everyone. Doug |
767,
Nah, leave the broom home. My real pet peeve is having a clean shop, although right now after last winter, spring, and helping a widow sell dozens of engines, thousands of parts, the shop has taken a little beating the last year. I have a large professional floor scrubber/polisher which I usually use once a week. Getting my sons 23' Carver ready to give to him for his wedding present, making room for "CptEddies" Cobra to finish up, WAITING for my bender parts to finish up a dozen CR Roll Bars, and of course prepping for your parts and eventually your Cobra spot- All is good! But stop in anytime! Direct flying to Grand Rapids, or Grand Rapids-hop to Muskingeon, or GR, Muskingeon, grasshopper flight to Ludington :D:D Pick Up available at any combination! :) DV |
Brent, I offered those 6040s I had, and then there was nothing. And, Yes I do remember the Vette was sold, but I though you might have a NEW stang.
I had them for him for free. As it was, I thought there was someone in Troy that was going to pick them up. But, I have not heard. Let me know what is going on. Not sure I could get to Ed's instantly, but we can work something out, Pentwater is that far. :D |

Please accept my apology for not keeping in better touch with you. In speaking with Brent there is some question about the viability of trying to rebuild original FE heads in a cost effective way. I'm trying to determine if I'm better off rebuilding a set of original heads or spending the money on a new set and available the expense (fairly large) of shipping them back and forth, as well as possible valve seats, guides, valves, machining, maganaflux,etc..... PLEASE know that I am incredibly grateful to you for the generous offer of your cylinder heads. If you are still agreeable I would appreciate it if I could keep that option open while I ask those with far more knowledge than I possess what the best and most cost effective way of getting cylinder heads for this engine would be. It's kind of a curve ball late in the game, I thought the heads I have were ok, only to find out just recently that they aren't suitable for this application. Again, please accept my apology if I didn't communicate effectively with you. Thanks again for you generous offer of the heads. I hope to find out as soon as possible what the guys who actually know what they're doing think I should do. Sorry again, Dave - and thank you so much! Doug |

I only have the cable and ebrake setup no handle. I suggest you take it or I will(LOL) |
It's Thursday the 25th. I have nothing at this point BUT from all the reports the UPS and FED-EX guys should be arriving at my shop any time now. I will post pictures and a complete "ARRIVAL INVENTORY" ASAP.
You know it has been my privilege to do something like this for years, Building Three Cobras for "Jenny" or more. From FFR's to the ultimate "Kirkham". This project just seems to be a little bit more special. Why? I have no idea but I sure am looking forward to it. I'm sure once 767's Cobra is done "We" will find a way to get it to him. But, I have this inner, almost selfish thought, wishing he could pick up the car here for it's first public viewing AND take his first test drives around this God Given beautiful area! Along the coast of Lake Michigan, some of the State Parks, parked in the white sands with the Lake in the background. Maybe a final moment of pictures with the Cobra AND 767 on the beach with the sunset as background, loading 767's Cobra into the trailer, Ahhh, what a send off! Just thinking.................. maybe a Convoy of Cobras even ;) |
Ed, once you have a scope on things, let me know what you need. I'll see if I got it and ask one of the kids to run it over...on the other side of the state...all the way over there...on the western part of the state.
   |
