Default Contemporary Front Shocks

I have the torsion bar front suspension with the Koni shocks. Can someone confirm the Koni model no.? My are stamped 80-1349. Is this the correct shock? Anyone else running a different shock with the torion bar suspension with good results?
Thanks
Tim

I have a torsion bar contemporary and when one of my Koni shocks went bad I drove over to Bilstein and they dynoed a good Koni shock and built a custom set of shocks for me.

I will dig out the build sheet on the shock and any othe info I have and get it to you for your review.

Koni's have a life time warranty,if they were purchased after 1980. Contemporary claimed they worked with Koni to develope a shock that was custom for the Contemporary Cobra. Contact Koni about a replacement set. Koni North America 1961 International way Hebron KY. 41048

Tramsey, Please advise what you find out. I have two front Koni's and four rear Koni's that seriously need rebuilding. If they have a lifetime warranty, that would sure help.
thanks,

Anybody have an answer to his question? I'm in need of a pair of front shocks also.

I think we have the same shock. Mine are stamped with the Koni logo, then an arrow that points to HEAVY TURN. then Made In The USA, then 80 1349, then 003 SA1, then a box with the word Special D inside it.

Big Tip.... don't tell Koni it is Contemporary Cobra or any kit car for that matter! Kit cars fall into the NO WARRANTY small print. I found that out the hard way. At worst they will rebuild them at a special price of $106.25 (each) puls parts. Mine move unevenly through there cylce hard resistance then very light to almost none, Paul mclaughlin at KONI says that what happens to shocks when they sit too long.

So what other shocks are CCX owners using? I really don't want to pay $106.25 plus parts per,for a 31 year old shock rebuild. I remember when I purchased them I was told by Peter Bayer that they had worked with Koni and that these shocks were custom made for CCx Cobra, sounds fantastic. When I go to install them they don't fit, the lower hole is to small for the bolt on the Jaguar suspension.I call up Contemporary and I get from Peter "yes we are aware of that and have corrected it" now I had these shocks for 2 weeks so I said "how about sending me the shocks that fit" but All I got was F_CK OFF which I got a lot from Contemporary from all the "back ordered parts" , "missing parts" (still waiting) and design and parts that were just plain wrong. So I tried to reem out the wholes and of course ruined the sleeve and rubber and had to come up with new parts to fit. And now of course Koni won't warranty them, Great.

I have seen several CCX rears fitted with the Aldan Eagle coil overs. They give a good ride and are adjustable coil overs for height.

If you contact Koni for warranty issue , don't tell them they are on a Cobra replica. Tell them they are and always have been on your Jaguar.

What years are the series I? Rock Auto lists Monroes for a 72 V12.

The early XKE's starting in 1961 with the 3.8 engine are the series ones. The series two's were with the 4.2 engine i think starting in 1968(not sure on the exact year there was also a series 1.5) the series three's starting 1969 thru 1974 with the 4.2 and the V12.
