Ccx81145
I purchased my Cobra over 2 years ago from a lady in Cali. who's brother had died in a plane crash and left her and her brothers the car collection. I'm trying to find out any info. on my car it's # is CCX81145 can anyone help me in trying to find the history of this car? She knows nothing and has no paper work. Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks guys.

CCX is for Contemporary Classic. Not sure on the CCX # number system mine was before the CCX. the original would be "1981-14th day -5 May" . Get ahold of "1985ccx" here on Club Cobra he is an expert on the serial numbers for Contemporary Classic.

I'll bet that it's actually CCS 3-1145 since most all of the Contemporary numbered cars are CCX 3 variations.

Jeff interviewed the CCX guy Peter Bayer. I talk with him regularly re Smiths instruments and senders. He is Nisonger Instruments a sponsor here on Club Cobra.

Thor has translated the number for you correctly. The X is like eXport and is a play on the originals that had CSX numbers.

Interesting. I've never seen a Contemporary with a CCX 8... series number. Anyone have any ideas about when or why?

They started using the manufacture date as the serial number. If it was CCX81145-2 it was the second chassis built on the same day.

I guess there is still more to learn about these cars. So what does 81145-2 translate into? Aug 11 or Nov 8 and what is the 45?

So it seems like i'm back to square one, i guess somewhere down the line somebody will know what the # means, i do understand the CCX but it's the 8 1145 that has everybody stumped it seems. Thank for the input guys, if there is anymore info. that you can find please share.

As mentioned in an earlier post Peter Bayer of Nisonger Instruments was the owner of Contemporary. He is still operating Nisonger Instruments and is a Club Cobra sponsor. Try giving him a call, maybe he can answer your question.

This is just a wild-a$$ed guess, but is there any chance that Contemporary Classic simply inverted their normal chassis numbering system for your car?
That is, that 81145 means May 14, 1981 (whereas it would normally have read 051481).

Thanks SunDude , as crazy as it sounds all options are open. I do have another question though, since we do know that it is a Contemporary Classic does this increase the value of my car, and is there a buyers market out there for a CCX?

I need to be reminded again exactly what the #'s mean, is he saying my car was built in 19"81" on the 14th of May? hence the 81145, also there is no number after the 5 as in 2 for 2nd chassis. i would like more clarification, sounds like a guessing game to me. and i'm not being hard to get along with ,i would just like to know!! thanks

That's it (19)81 14th day of 5th Month. If there was a -2 (I never heard of a -3) it was the second frame made that day. Yours doesn't have it so it's the first or possibly only CCX frame made that day.

From what i understand the "3" was reserved for the Daytona.
I'm really not sure i'm buying the number sequence just yet, but it sounds reasonable enough, and it is a beginning but believe me i "do" appreciate any help. Thanks.

Just curious. What is the importance of understanding the number convention that they used? Are you trying to determine something about the build our a previous owner?
