Jag Rear Brakes

Does anybody have any pix of the mounting for the brakes on a Jag rear end? I'm trying to determine what I have so that I can either gather more parts or upgrade to something better. Here is what I have.

It looks like you have the very early style brake set-up. I am not sure how long they used that style, but my 2 65 set-ups both have that style.

Maybe you didn't put it in the picture, but you are missing the bracket that allows you to mount the caliper housing to the differential. You also seem to be missing the hydraulic piston assembly that bolts to each side of the caliper bracket.

It seems that there may have been a cast in bracket to the housing. It appears to have some rough saw marks on it. I still haven't been able to find any pix of a housing that may have had those brackets as part of the housing so I don't know for sure. I think my fix is going to be to swap all the newly rebuilt gears and center section into another housing.

I am leaving for vacation in an hour, so I can't get you any pics, but I have all the parts. It is a bit hard to upgrade as there is not a lot of clearance between the housing and bracket. Mickmate sells brackets for Wilwood calipers, but I do not believe there is a way to use the e-brake.

I am upgrading mine to 11.5" vented rotors and the newer style calipers. I ran into a few minor setbacks, but should get it done after vacation.

I've talked with Nick about this and we're still having problems even identifying the housing. I think it's been modified maybe to try and run outboard brakes. Knowing the guy I got all the parts from , nothing would surprise me .

After looking at you caliper bracket again, it looks like somebody tried to cobble it to mount directly on the housing. Maybe somebody's didn't realize the caliper mounted to another bracket that mounted to 3 of the bearing bolts.

I have just about everything to convert to external brakes. The only thing I have to figure out is a way to adapt the old driveshaft to a newer version as the u joint is different.

From looking at your photos I'm fairly certain you have a '64 to '67 differential case. Note the text below it says a "horse shoe-shaped caliper mounting bracket" is used; it is different!

I dropped everything off at the rear end shop this morning. The tech is very familiar with the Jag stuff and is going to make it all good with the parts I have. He's going to build my posi center section into the case that I have the brake setup for. Thanks for that link. I didn't realize I could double click the pix and get a larger image.
