Knock off adapter

I need to modify the rear adapters from vintage wheels used to mount the knockoffs, how much material can be machined off the front mounting surface without affecting the integrity of the adapter?

I'm a little confused. You want to machine the wheel side of the mounting surface of the wheel adapter?
I don't think I'd machine anything off the adapter. If the wheels need to be moved in slightly, I'd be looking at machining the backside of the wheel at the mounting surface. I'd leave the adapter alone.
If I understand what you're asking that is.

call vintage wheels. maybe they can answer, or exchange parts.

The little you could possibly remove from the adapter (they are 6 to 10 mm thick?), you could achieve with more camber. Unless you maxed that out already. 1 deg is approx 10 mm at the tire.

I had an issue with tire for on the rear wheels. Talk with Bob at Vintage. He will take the wheels back and remachine the set back on the wheel.
