Rank the replicas for accuracy
Can someone here rank the replica mfgs. for the accuracy in their recreations?

The first issue you run into is that the original 6 cars were not the same. The Italian made bodies had the roof shape changed due to a mistake when they were being made.
That said, the Factory Five is not particularly close. They started with an existing windshield which forced the roof to be different. The wheelbase is also 5" longer than the original cars were.
I am not sufficiently familiar with the others to comment.

None of them are dead nuts. Pick the one you like the best.

I have seen one original #13 at the Shelby Meet here in Tulsa 2 years ago and shortly after that time I had the opportunity to see one of the Brock SPF coupes (at least that is what I was told it was) and they looked very similar. Actually, one would probably have to have both the original and the replica side by side to draw an absolute conclusion.
I have driven the early SPF and Factory Five version and the Shell Valley offering. I think to 99.9% of the public every replica looks like an original. Since I didn't drive or even sit in the original I could never honestly compare one to another. The original was in it's orig racing condition and would probably not appeal to anyone wanting a daily driver or something to polish.

UpStates replica is the closest to an original, as it's outer body molds were pulled from CSX-2299 when the car was being restored some 15 years ago or so. Most differ under the hood as glass does not lend itself well to the way the original aluminum was designed. The firewall on the originals sits back under the front cowl about 5 inches which means it can not be molded at the same time as the main body shell. Most glass cars are set up, so that the firewall drops from the front cowl which makes molding easier and helps to keep the body parts in alignment. Also, ifyou look at the Shell Valley, the door opening is molded so that it is part of the lower side panel and up and over the front cowl. Again, this makes for easier molding but is different than the original. The UpState car is made from more individual piece molds and fitted together as the originals were.

I saw an NAF at Knotts a couple years ago. Seemed accurate enough and I think the mold was pulled off an original. Even had air jacks.

Shel' commissioned about a half a dozen coupes to be built 5-6 years ago. Some still pop up on evil-bay from time to time. Pretty accurate from what I remember. Lee Benson - All Pro Motorsports, may still have one.

My personal opinion only, based on exterior and interior asthetics only (not underhood/chassis/suspension, etc.)
1. McClusky
2. Upstates (although it used the "tall windsheild" versus the lower profile version)
3. Superformance
4. Factory Five
5. Shell Valley

I don't think our SPF coupe is that "accurate" as far as layout, but is a Beautiful piece in it's own right. Plus, I have driven Race cars on the street and while it may have been a big thrill at one time, I prefer the refined demeanor of the Brock Coupe.

Wasn't part of the intent of the SPF Brock Coupe to replicate the shape of the car as he had originally intended, (before the Italians messed, er, ah... redesigned it) ?

I think it was to build it as Peter would have if it hadn't had the plug pulled. Remember the originals were built as rebodies for the 289 chassis, the new one has a complete new chassis design which allows the car to be lower and even more aerodynamic than the originals could have been with the limitations that were in place. It is more of an evolution with the "feel" of the original design. I think, IMHO, that if you look at an original and a Brock Coupe next to each other that the Brock Coupe is a much more sleek and supple design.

Contempary built a handful. The mold WAS pulled off of an original. The molds (I believe, but could be wrong), were sold to Upstate. I have a friend that has one of the Contempary handful that he is interested in selling ( it was never finished). It has been sitting in his garage all these years (he has no time for it). It is painted the blue and white with the optional aluminum interior. All that it needs is an engine and transmission. Any ideas on what it is worth? Anyone interested? Thanks.

My two cents!
1. McClusky
2. Upstates (Now Lesher Motorsports)
3. Superformance
4. Factory Five
5. Shell Valley
Upstate cars have sold the whole shabang to Lesher in the not to distant past. They look to be doing a great job of it as well!
John, building a Coupe?

Here's my $.10 after seeing and sitting in many of these cars
I think SPF is in last place regarding closeness to the original, but a really super nice car.
1) McClusky
2) Lesher / Upstate
3) FFR
4) SV
5) SPF
Not ranked: Highland Daytona. Never seen or sat in one, so I have no opinion
