Ralphy,
Looks like a Backdraft & I know the prices keeps going up, but Reg sells very few costing $100,000

I'm guessing it may be easier to change the I.D. of a car like that than a conventional car? Likely in a paint booth now? Or a donor for a new build?

ChiChris 06-07-2015 09:42 AM

A very hard car to flip and little parted out value.
Guess the $100,000 'value' was for insurance purposes.

Looks like it was a Superformance, SPO3050. I found this posting from the St. Augustine Ford Dealership.

makes no sense to steal these cars. resale market it tiny, part out value is small and not worth the crime IMO, draws tons of attention so can't exactly drive it around, so moving it out of state to a place that has very lax registration requirements seems like the only play for these crooks. what am I missing?

" so moving it out of state to a place that has very lax registration requirements "

Maybe it'll come to AZ, on its way to Mexico? It could happen...ha

Or it's already on a container ship headed to parts unknown....

Hillbank should hire this Ad person.

Zero upside to stealing one of these. I would think that stealing one would only be useful if you were taking it far away and were going to "recondition" it and drive it. Then again you can't be thinking to clearly to still a car so its not like an realistic thought process can be applied in this situation.

What point are you trying to make?

Maricopa 06-07-2015 01:14 PM

If that was going for 100K the gunman wasn't only bandit in the car...

Smells fishy.
Don't they ask for a picture of a license before they take off for a ride?

Rjscharer 06-07-2015 01:34 PM

Sounds weird to me too. I have seen this car there for about two years. It's a
Superformance car. I looked at it but bought a new Backdraft instead for
30k less.

I totally agree. Went with a friend to test drive an Audi R8 at a dealership and they vetted him pretty thoroughly.

maybe I misread, but the article said the salesman was driving the car. the their was smart enough to not ask to drive himself knowing they'd want his info

That's funny:LOL:

But I suspect that the article may have taken some liberties here?

Asking $80k and selling for $70k would be a standard play for a late model kitted out SPF, no?

And you know how the American news is...

Hmmmm.... I wouldn't have thought so...

But feel free to educate me. Please explain to me, like I'm a 7 year old, how or why that ^ is racist?

In any case, if it offended you, then you have my apologies and sympathies.

Saw on the news today that they got the car back. and they have video of the hijacker from in the sales office. I read that the dealership has been sitting on this car for around two years and their asking price was $108
