Gainesville was super as usual. The weather was perfect with just a few clouds and the temp around 80. Some of the fair weathered guys and gals got sunburns early this year.

Here is who ran the event
Joe Smith in his Teal Midstates(sad to report his hydro throwout bearing gave up at the Hotel b4 the event and I had to take his cobra home on my trailer sunday but he had a great time.)
Jim & Lorrie Pomroy in their Yellow Vett-ran great and Jim was defeted by Engineer Ed with his imporved brakes although I think Jim ran more consistant than Ed)
Mike Iodice in his Black EM with under car exhaust and some new 16" rims and better tires
Ed Kamptner in his Blue FFR-his brakes worked great this time and he was the second fastest cobra there
Ken Collett in his Blue Superformance-his cobra was the most improved carfrom last time. With the new 17" Kumho Victoracer tires in lieu of the greasy 15" BFG radial TAs he went from last to the fastest Cobra and almost caught the Z06 Vette. Ken said the car had more but he did not.
Chris Allen in his unpainted FFR-ran great with a 90% complete FFR. Wires hanging out fro under the dash, no paint, no bodywork, no carpet and a really big smile. His roller rockers came loose and Dino peformed Pit Crew work an got him runnng again. The look on Allens face was priceless.
Neil McGarry in his Audi S4 Avant twin turbo-all I can say is DO NOT RACE A AUDI STATION WAGON THAT HAS A STANGE WHISTLE COMMNG FROM THE ENGINE or you will be sorry. He was one of the fastest cars there. 4 wheel drive and twin turbos make moms wagon real fast. A true sleeper
Terry Brannon in his Cobalt Blue EM-With under car exhaust this has to be the quietest cobra on the face of the planet
Ruble Moore in my Red Hunter Cobra-I think I ran pretty well and ran similar times to the Audi
Jerry Rowley in his Blue Unique-He had some problems with his pit crew fueling his car with Diesel Fuel so he had the smokiest cobra there. Sad to report his fuel cell sprung a huge leak so he had to park it before he caught fire
Jeff & Roberta Wetzel in their Black Z06 Vette-King and Queen of the hill again but the cobras are getting close. They cheeted this time with R compound steemroller tires and a new trick Cat-Back exhaust
Diino Booth in his Black FFR-he made 1-1/2 laps before he threw the serpentine belt at 6500rpm and wet down 1/3 of the track with slippery anti-freeze. The NHRA guy with the broom and oil dry was not too happy with him. We did a late night exhaust gasket repair after dinner that night
Kim Crocket in his Red Aurora Slabside 289-This car did the coolest powerslides on its skinny wire wheels and tires. It beet me out for least HP and he still ran respectible times. He said he forgot to turn the AC off and spent too much time trying to find a good radio station
Jerry Cowing in his Burgandy Unique-He was running the famous BFG TAs and they could not handle the torque of his big block FE. Those FE's take afew laps before they stop caughing then just hang on.

We had 16 drivers in 14 cars but only 14 drivers got to run becaust they broke b4 the event (Joe) or on the first Lap(Dino)

Thumbs up A note of thanks....

We have good people here at the Deep South Cobra Club....DARN good
people. I personally witnessed:

1. Everyone helping to push me up onto Ruble's trailer, which allowed me
to still have a great day at the track, even though my Midstates had a
hydro. line leak and was "tango uniform".

2. Ruble, Dino, and Mike I. all helped and gave me advice as I troubleshot
my clutch problem at the track.

3. Dino ,Bob, and Ken who helped me change Jerry Rowley's rear wheel
after his brakes locked up.

4. Dino Booth who did the majority of the rocker repair on Chris Allen's FF5.

5. Ed K. and Jim P. who worked late into the night after the track event to
help Dino install a new set of header gaskets, so that he could make the
drive home.

6. My personal award for the day went to Ruble Moore, who trailered my
sick Cobra home....a drive that added 3 hours to his already long drive
from Gainesville to the panhandle! The man is a true saint.

I'm sure that there were other acts of kindness I left out......please
forgive me if I omitted to mention them. You can rest assured that we
will be setting up our 3rd DSCC Gainesville test track event soon.

Thanks to everyone for coming, and to Jerry and Ruble who did most of
paper (read GRUNT) work, to make it happen.

Hey Joe,

You forgot to mention Rick & Randy. They are real good guys to have spent their day helping us out working the corners, lap timing & generally being very, very helpful. I'd like to personally thank them both for helping me out and say that I enjoyed theirs and everyone else's company immensely. I had a great time and can't wait to do it all again!!!

Mike

BTW, I barely made it home on Saturday. My GMC overheated severely about 20 miles from G'ville and if my friend's John & Carol (who left at noon) hadn't come looking for me and found me, I would have had to leave my truck there and drive the Cobra home. Good friends are worth more than money.

Thumbs up You are correct!

Mike, you are 100% correct! Thanks to Rick, Randy, and all of the pit crews
and track workers who worked so hard for us. This thing is really a team
effort.

Thumbs up PIT CREWS NEEDED

It sounds like everyone had a great time. Can I interest anyone into a trailer purchase. I will be renting one for April and June before I hit the road, can't park anything on your site in Cape Coral. Hope to see all in April.

Default Hey, what happened. I posted as Cobra Dan???

Here is MY reply:
Man, what an event.
OK, next time I'll have "R" tires and no excuses for not coming in first.
As far as my consistency, I was however getting faster each time out.
Renee was pushing me to get into the gas earlier each time out and occasionally we got a little sideways.
I'm just glad I was able to best Jim Pomroy after talking all that trash the night before.

Glad to hear everyone made it home safe.
So, when are we running again?
Last I heard, we were looking to hook up with the Audi club.
I'm in, just let me know when!

Renee and I are hoping to make it to the DSCC meeting, and we may fly in for the weekend to save driving. We will have to see what happens.

Jeff and Roberta better keep an eye in their rear view mirror, I'm right behind them.

Thanks to all who helped organize this event. It's been great!
I can't think of a better way to enjoy my car.

Keith I never said anything about "pit crew" and diesel, I admitted up front I put 10 gallons of diesel in my Cobra by mistake. What kept me from running was a split tank, apparently. It puked gas all over the track in big doses, so we put it back on the trailer.

The event was very good, in spite of a group of "archers" that tried to stop us from running early in the morning. We got in 30 laps of a bigger track than before. I want to thank everyone for the way they conducted themselves. The "do it yourself flag team", ala SCCA, really works well. I am impressed by the consistant good driving of eveyone. We did a lot of spin outs, so it was obvious that all were trying hard to go fast. Noone lost there cool, though, all spins were short and easy. I am pleased that a lot of folks that never did track events before are catching on and loving the sport of motor racing.

We did get a "break" form the track on account of the archers, BTW. So we have a "little cushion" towards our next track event.

Jerry
I was trying to be nice and blame your mythical "pit crew" on the fueling mistake. Here is a little pointer on those new pumps at the convience store "Green handles are bad for your cobra unless you buy motor parts at Detriot Diesel"

Jerry & Joe the layout of the track was awesome this time. I would like to see us run the track one way in the morning and the opposite way in the afternoon.

Hope to see every one participate at the next event????????

Now about those "R" compound tires does anyone have a set I can buy real cheep? Any free stroked and supercharged nascar motors

The need for speed is getting into all of our blood and I can say this is fun getting to open up the Cobra and not have to worry about the Law or some innocent person.
