Default Richard Petty Driving Experience

If you aren't an experienced racer already and you haven't done this, its a blast. I did the Rookie Experience on Friday. It is a fun way to spend an afternoon and AMS is a great track. Sprint hosted a day for corporate customers and though we were limited to 6000rpm/150mph - I pushed the pace car while running 5954 RPM according to the spec sheet - It gives you an appreciation for what drivers go through for 4-5 hours...

I just wish the pace car'd gotten out of the way! The next step up from the Rookie Experience lets you air it out a bit more.

Hey, What's it cost? How long a day is it? How many laps? You know, ALL that stuff!

I was lucky to not have to pay since Sprint invited us as a corporate customer..... we were there from 1:30-5:00 and each participant did an 8 lap run and a ride-along with a professional driver. Numbers of laps vary with tracks and programs...

RPDE uses several tracks around the country and they have programs from just a ride-along to the multi-day racing experience with more laps (and for more money). Go to 1800BEPETTY.COM for the details.

I did the rookie experience at the track at Walt Disney World in Orlando about two years ago. It was fantastic and the fastest I have ever driven in my life ( I don't have a Cobra yet). The cost was $350.00 for 8 laps, if I remember correctly. The best thing is that once you do it at a "short" track like Disney, you are qualified to do it at a superspeedway like Daytona and go a hell of a lot faster. At that time, you got three sessions of eight laps each for a total of twenty-four laps for $2400.00 at Daytona. If I wasn't trying to save money for a Cobra, I would do that in a heartbeat.

I did 18 laps in Las vegas, and sucked an egg. Harder than I thought it would be.
