Question Engines

Does anybody have an opinion on Coast High Performance Engines? Or the engine factory? I am going to meet with Southern Automotive next week.

Why not include Gessford Machine in your auditioning for an engine. george Anderson very knowledgable, excellent work and a Cobra owner to boot!

If price and performance and reputation are comparable I'd go with the one closest to you. I imagine there are some real horror stories about people who bought engines from far away builders.

You can find volumes of information on all of these builders by doing a search on this site. Should be enough reading to keep you busy for a few hours . . .

Going with the builder that is close to you gives you only one advantage. If he is not a good builder he can do it again and again without spending too much time shipping the motor back and forth.
If he is a bad builder it makes it easier to take him to court if he won;t stand behind it.
If the engine builders were of equal quality surely opt for the one closer to you.
If you don't have a builder nearby, shipping your engine 500 miles vs. 1500 miles does not guarantee a thing. Other than you saved 1000 miles.

I had a good experience with Engine Factory. Christian is a good person to work with and they were fairly close to me. location or proximity should not be the main factor in choosing a builder.

Look at the top of the page to the pulldown entitled "Member Discounts." There is a link there that will take you right to Gessford's page.

Thumbs up

www.gessford.com

Call George.

Kansas City to Hastings-5 1/2 hours,
No knocking noises when firing up the engine-priceless.

Cheers,
Bill Cook

My vote is for Southern Automotive. Bill and Susan build engines as a labor of love. They stand behind them too.

Alpha,

Southern Automotive is definitely the way to go, particularly for a local. The Parhams are great folks with a solid team that knows a lot about Cobras in addition to putting together fine engines. It's great being able to take a short drive down to Mcdonough for service, repair, what ever. My car is down there not (though ready for pick up) due to some poor work that was performed by a mechanic shop closer to my house. With a high performance engine, anything can happen that might require surgery. Make it easy on yourself.

Looks like a small block from Southern is the way to go.

Alphacobra
Take a ride down to Five seasons Saturday around 12: 30 just inside 285 - 5600 Roswell road. You'll be able to see some of The Parham's handy work.
PS
A big block might be even better

OK, I was kidding about the parhams standing in front of my engine, instead of behind it. Some people think I was making a negative comment, and this was just an unsuccessfull stab at humor on my part. I am again suggesting Southern Automotive as my engine builder of choice, and I apologize for the mis understanding.

If I was to have an High Performance engine built I would prefer someone I could go by and see his work and one who has good referances. For you that would be Bill Parham at Southern Automotive. He is one of the few who stands behind his work and that is rare in the HP motor business.

He is on of the best when it comes to Ford Motors. He also breaks out in hives when a Bowtie is nearby.

Overwhelming support for Parhams make my point.
If I lived in Tuscon (which I don't) and if there was no engine builder I was comfortable with , why shouldn't I send my engine to Parhams to get built?

A good builder is not necessarily the one closest to you. Mine is 1700 miles away.

Turk,

As always--a lucid and good man.

Mr. Johan,

Apology accepted--even though I took no offense since you didn't offend me I guess Regarding your humor?? ... hmmmm... Having seen you drive at some local events---you are only humorous when you are in a race car--just kidding. Just in case anyone takes that serious (please don't) please check this out He can drive the wiz out of anything--except for Ford Pintos and Porsche 944s.

Alpha, you are welcome at my place and I will show you why this shouldn't even be a question. I have Bill and Sue building a new engine [geez while I am editing..might as well make it clear] for a NEW additional project--non-Bowtie of course . I own one of Bill's ex-personal cars and it has treated me VERY well. You will need to sign a waiver however if you want a ride--bring Helmet as well. You need the NEXT Parham Hammer. If after sales service (and by that I mean "Ahhh Bill, I tried to fix nothing that was even broken until I touched it......") is EVEN a FACTOR for you--RUN, don't walk to SAE. If you ever wanted to travel first class...now is your chance.

Bill and his team are amazing. After a local brand X shop fixed my car, it was worse off than when I took it to them. I took it down to Southern for a couple of days. They went through it from bow to stern, fixed all of the problems I knew about plus a couple I didn't and charged me a fraction of what brand X charged. They don't just work on engines, they work on Cobras. It's great having an operation like this here in the Atlanta area. Makes being a Cobra owner that much better.
