Default I saw you!

Tried to post this Monday morning, but having trouble with the email.
I saw a red Cobra with white stripes around 4:00 pm this past Sunday at the corner of 316 and 20. Could not get turned around quick enough in that crazy traffic to say hello. I was in the Nemisis Cobra. My son Noah and I actually heard you before we saw you. The way it is supposed to be, right?? Hope
you had a good ride, we did.

David, I'm sure that was me. I live in that neighborhood. I was out joy riding on Sunday and I'm definitely red with white stripes. Uniques are known for their above-average sound levels (love it). Let me know the next time you have the snake out on the road and we'll meet somewhere.

We'll do. My son Noah has been dying to see another Cobra. Funny how the shine wears off so quickly! I'll probably ask you a hundred questions regarding engine specifics. I'm approaching the 1500 mile mark on the car and want to change all fluids. I thought I knew alot about cars until I asked another guy about the correct oil for this engine, and I got a volume of information back. Now I am questioning everything.

I've been down that road. The guy who built my car was running Mobil 1 5W30 synthetic. But Bill Parham (who built the engine) insisted I run 10W50 (I think) non-synthetic. So I'm taking Bill's recommendation and running the heavier stuff.

Thanks Tony,
I want to make sure the money spent on this engine was not in vain.

Bill Parham built my engine and recommended I break it in with 20W50 Havoline Racing Oil for at least 2000 miles. He said DO NOT run synthetic during the break-in period. I was burning about a quart every 500 miles until I got about 3500 miles on it and then it stopped burning oil. I changed the oil at 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000 miles during the break-in and now change it every 2000 miles. I also switched to 15W50 Mobile 1 Synthetic at 4000 miles and it doesn't burn it either. I've been told it takes longer (2000+ miles) for the rings to seat if it was built with chrome rings.

Of course always change the filter when you change the oil. There's a real good thread on which filters are good and bad on this forum somewhere. Its well worth the read.

There's also a good thread on oil additives. It BASICALLY said to stay away from all the additives as I remember. Do a search.

Thanks Jerry,
I want to give this engine the respect it deserves. The engine is a true SCJ. Five grand went into deburring the block alone. It was a 429 taken 0.030 over to get it to 460 with all the other necessities. It is a single pumper, 950 Holley HP. Lots of horses. I've noticed the quart every 500 miles on this one as you noted. I'll follow your regiment since you are having success with it.
