Thanks, Apex. It's a Cannon PowerShot S40 and I'm very happy with it thus far...
Day 2 (action shots)
First of all, this marks my first attempt at photographing cars in action, so be gentle. For those of you who have never tried it... IT'S TOUGH!
The concept is simple: Leave the shutter speed slow (to get that cool blurring effect) and "follow" the car as it passes you while hitting the shutter. The goal is to capture part of the car in focus (which will actually happen if you're "following" correctly) while allowing the wheels, tires, background, etc. to blur, hence giving the feeling of speed. Like I said, the concept is simple. Execution, on the other hand...
Click the images for hi-res version (some of them work).
GT-1 Camaro
One of the better shots. Note the concentration in his face.
If you look closely, you'll see that Freddie Rice is smiling here.
I like this shot a lot. This is the MOPAR-powered Cobra.
And another shot I really like.
I uploaded ALL of my action shots to my album just to give you folks an idea of how many attempts it takes to get a correct shot. I have a newfound appreciation for motorsport photographers.
I took my car onto the track today.

Keith -
That's me in the yellow Superformance picture you have there. Great shot, thanks... Was that in turn 3? I can only imagine how hard that was to follow the cars while trying to get the camera focused, etc...
I've gotta thank Earl, all the volunteers and everyone else that helped put together such a great event. I had a great time and will make sure that I'm in attendance for the next one...

Keith,
Great photos. I would say that most of those cars are traveling at least 60 in that corner. I bet it was hard to follow them in your camra.

Keith,
Great action shots, you caught the cars with a background that shows the movement. All these guys are having a blast!

Randy, he tried. He kept trying to get my pic, but he got pics of the folks behind trying to catch me. See above. If I had a car in front of me, he could have used that as a marker to trigger the pic.
