Default A 15" tire question

Hi guys. My trusty Midstates is coming apart next month. I'm putting in a slightly used 500HP 460 I got an AWESOME deal on, and David Kee will be rebuilding my toploader into a wide ratio. I intend to get back in the DSCC Cobra game locally with more events this fall.

I'm changing out my wheels (Compmotives) anyone needing a set of 15" repo knock-off please let me know. I'm in Tallahassee, FL these days.

I'm specifically looking for some new tire advice. I'm going to be running 15" wheels, and want to replace my old BFG T/A rubber with something more "sticky". Any suggestions?

Joe,
I was just looking for some tire info, if you search "which tire" on the CC search engine you will find a lot of info on tires and a lot of good feedback as well.

Joe, there's not alot out there for 15" "Sticky" tires for the street,I use 17" Nitto's on the race track but my street tires are 15"s and after alot of research I found Yokahoma Avid S/T to have the best traction rating in the 15"s and you can't beat the price!
Hope this helps.

I'm gonna try, Ed. It has indeed been a while. I intend to make the old Midstates "scary fast" this summer, and get her ready for the fall. Keep me on the mailing list for the DSCC, my email is still kitcobra@yahoo.com

Paul, you've been the 5th recommendation I've had on the Yokos.....I'm leaning that way for now. Thanks!

Joe,
I know Jerry Miller (DSCC) runs the Avids; I think both on the track and on the street. I think Randy Dender also runs them on the street.. I know that with 500+ HP and the torque of the 460 you might want to think about just running the Goodyear racing rain tires. We have been running the same tire in the slick version on the track with great success. I know that with alot of HP and torque I could break the slicks loose shifting to 3rd gear with no problem. Some of the guys on the far west coast are running the rain tires on the street, even though they aren't street legal. Just something to think about.

Joe, this may help you! As I am in the same boat and have done exceptional research......I have come to this, regarding the 15's......the top of the line on traction, wear and ride.....is the Yoko's.....they have the newest compound (silicon) and they are priced well! But, not too far behind are the Dunlop Qualifier GT's. Both these tires are T rated (up to 118). However, when it comes to ratings.....remember that with this type of car and weight, you can still be fairly safe for a bit at higher speeds........Next would be either the Goodyear GT II or the BFG Radial T/A. These are rated S (112). But again, not exactly an exact science on these cars! I hope this helps........BTW.....I think I will be going with the Dunlops......as they are good performers, good rating and you can put the white letters on the outside, if you like that look! Many feel that to put the Yoko (outlined in white instead of solid) on the outside is not as preferred as the tires are not so politically correct, whatever that means! Up to you, but wanted to have you benefit from all the info I have accumulated recently.
have a good one.....................Fred

Thanks Fred. My 3 month 460 build project is now on month number 6! I'm also building a new house, and have just got remarried. My plate is a tad full these days. I can see daylight, though!
