DV, What is the goal?

DV,

I was wondering what the goal this year was for fund-raising at DVSF? How close are you?

David:) :) :)

Dwight 12-21-2002 08:04 PM

GOAL ??

KEEP ME POSTED.:)

Double Venom 12-21-2002 09:09 PM

Now that IS a good one. The first year was an accident to say the least! Expecting and hoping for maybe $1,000.00 to give to Jenny and CF. I mean an impromptu chocolate chip cookie eat off, all started by our brother in skin, Dan (Semko).

The Mrs. and I found ourselves extremely short of funds to put on a picnic for a hundred or so people! Two manufacturers contacted me on the same day and offered to throw in some funds to help offset our costs. We had a few extra bucks left over and basically the rest is now making history!

Let me tell you, our Cobra family on it's first baby steps raised more money for C.F. than ANY independent organization in history! At the end of DVSF I, the Mrs. and I turned in our retirement papers to CF and most of the Cobra Family, never intending or even thinking that ANYONE would want to do this again!

Then along came "BLACKJACK," Turk, and so many others. Almost demanding that we do it again. It truly was BLACKJACK and Turk, and behind the scenes, Mrs. Semko and others that convinced Mrs. DV that all the time, effort, aggravation, missed business meetings, etc., etc., were all worth it. They insisted that the "Family" would return if we would do it again.

The "Family" certainly didn't let us down! They came, they gave, they smoked tires, they paraded, they showed off, they sweated under 90' heat, they tipped a few, OK, some a lot :), we hope they had fun..... and they gave, and gave and gave, only to keep giving not only through out the year, but all during the DFSF II!

Another all time record was set! Yes, the Cobra Family had come through again!

I guess you can tell how proud I am of being allowed to play with the "Cobra Family"!

Back to the question. Without being snide, I want to raise as much as we possibly can! Getting involved with CF since the Fling started, I have listened to Dave Smith, Jenny's father, educated myself about CF and decided that we really, really "are doing a good thing!"

Realistically, we are trying everything we know how, and a whole lot we know nothing about, trying to raise an honest $100,000.00
before expenses this year.

The question; which came first. " the egg or the chicken?" Is now surfacing in my e-mail, is it a Cobra event or is it a fund raiser?
My answers, it is both! It is a true win-win situation for all involved!

David, rereading your question, I may be totally off track. If the question is, how much do we need to spend to put on the Fling this year, then the answer is thousands! If we pull off what we intend to pull off, our costs could run well above $20,000.00 for the three days. But, if we do pull it off, the gross could well go into the high six figures! Of course all our "family" has to do is the same thing they have done for the past two years, plus pay an entry fee for the first time.

I have refused to except this hard fact in the past. My thoughts are, you just don't charge friends and family members to come to a picnic! But, the hard fact is, we simply have to, to continue on.(No one but NO ONE will be turned away because of an entry fee, not even the ones that can afford it, but don't feel it is worth it!)

Sorry for the extreme post! Guess I have been too quiet around here lately. The website is coming soon. The finished agenda is coming soon. Sponsors are being lined up, and special showings for all the sponsors are being put in place this year.

DV...so much more to come...We ARE doing a good thing!

David Kirkham 12-21-2002 10:05 PM

DV,

I think the goal should be 100K DONATED to the CF foundation.

As such:

Kirkham Motorsports would like to donate a Kirkham car to CF. Would that be possible? We have been blessed with a record year and would like to pass along our good fortunes to those who stand in need as a small way of saying thanks for all of the great customers and friends we have made by way of this site.

I hope this will help you to achieve our goal of 100K to the CF foundation. To help you further your goals, Kirkham Motorsports will donate 100% of the proceeds to charity...with no expenses taken for ANY of our costs whatsoever. How do you propose we proceed?

Thank you for all the time and effort you put in to charitable work. My mother told me the whole time I was growing up that service is the rent we pay for being permitted to live on this earth. You, my friend, have paid enough rent to live a long, long time.

David

Turk 12-21-2002 10:11 PM

David,
That is a BIG CLASS act!!!

You must have made a ton of Money on the recent purchases by the Gasholes. Enough to swing this act of generosity. I hope you did. These guys are loaded.

I don;t know that any other one person or a vendor could possibly top that.

DV, do they still have to pay admission?

Hell of a start.

TURK

Promotions and marketing division of DV and family should take this and run with it. First Stop is FFR. Smith Bros. have as much at stake and they should be able to match this generosity very easily.
Two cars donated should help raise $100,000 after expenses without a problem. time to contact the CF and have them get as much press as they can drum up. none of this local stuf. I am talking network coverage.

If Tony Ripepi wins another car, we will beat him senseless.

David Kirkham 12-21-2002 10:27 PM

Turk,

Thank you for the kind words. I hope you have a pencil handy to help me keep track of everything.

How are we going to make this thing work?

David
:) :) :)

Turk 12-21-2002 10:29 PM

We will remember all of it. Don't nee to write it down,.
So we'll have couple of cars donatged. II wonder if we get someone to throw in a Jet Ranger or a Citation or two..

David,
I hope you got rooms.

TURK

David Kirkham 12-21-2002 10:31 PM

No rooms yet...I guess I'll be sleeping on the floor of your hotel room.

David:D :D :D

computerworks 12-21-2002 10:45 PM

OK ...I'm in

I'm waiting to hear back from DV about this.

I throw my Gashole hat in the ring to help with the process and the logistics, etc.

(I think Turk's floor is already taken...he is sub-letting)

Mohuska 12-21-2002 11:09 PM

What Can I Do??

First...David....you are a first class man amongs men.....I agree completely that service is the rent we pay in life. My family has dealt with an autistic child for over 20 years and tried to support this worthwhile foundation.

Second...The Cobra Family as DV put it is very remarkable in rallying again and again to such a needy cause. All the efforts by so many should make this DVSF one to remember and........provide much needed funds to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

I have many years of working with event organization and would like to offer logistic support or whatever to help with this event........

If I can be of any help to DV in this.....please let me know.......I will follow this thread....

I want to be in charge of the Belly Dancers.
There will be Belly Dancers this year, right?

TURK
How about showing some cultural sensitivity to those of us who are home sick?
If the vent was being held in Ankara Turkey, I would get you all Cheesburger and French Fries so you wouldn't be homesick.

Chaplin 12-22-2002 01:29 AM

David-
That is truly a generous offer. It makes me feel good to know that there are still people out there that care and do things to help others, and better still to know that those people are part of this community of cobraphiles that I will very soon (hopefully) be joining.

DV/Turk
With one car from one manufacturer, let alone multiple cars from different manufacturers, think how much $$ could be raised in donations. For example, how many raffle tickets could be sold at $100, $200, $300 or $400 a piece? I'm sure almost everyone on this site would fork over $100 for the chance to win a Kirkham. I know I'd buy at least one raffle ticket. The economics would have to be worked out, but there is an opportunity to raise a signifcant portion of those funds simply through the raffle of one of them there AL bodied Kirkhams. The lucky bastard that won would get himself one hell of a nice car (If I won, it would be tough to explain to the wife why I need two Cobras, but I'd figure it out) and the rest of us, well, we'd get a nice tax deduction and feel good that we donated to a worthy cause.

By the way Turk, didn't you read the rest of David's post, he will be importing the Belly Dancers from Poland especially for you, and they've eaten lots of burgers and fries!!:3DSMILE:

A Wonderful Kirkham Gesture!

Turk,
Since David Kirkham has graciously donated a completed roller for the DVSF3, please give him the room that Sue and I reserved for the entire event.

I don't want to see David sharing a room with Jamo and his flock. He would never be the same baaaaack in Provo!:D

Turk 12-22-2002 09:12 AM

I had 16 rooms under my name and they are ALL gone. But there is a chance that at least one of the participants will not be using it. I will substitute your room for the Kirkhams. That way they will be guaranteed a room, and as soon as the cancellation happens, you can have your room back.
Worst case you will be driving home and back every day.Somehow we will get it handled.

Since DV hasn't said boo, I can only assume he is speechless like many of us.

DV:

Don't forget your local resources. I'm a great go-pher! Also, for a small fee (just kidding) I've got two extra bedrooms plus secure parking! I can catch some overflow. Judie will kill me for this one! I'll be in touch!

David K: YOU DA MAN--IN SPADES!!

BT SNAKE 12-22-2002 10:02 AM

WOW !!!!

David, you and your family are really special and gracious
folks. As one small company you have done so much to help.

I will buy three tickets at what ever price they are . I would
luv to own a Kirkham.

Hersh:)

Turk 12-22-2002 10:31 AM

BT,
If there is not one now...there OUGHT to be some kind a law about how many Cobra or Cobra like cars one can own. You my friend are, already over the limit.

Maybe you and BLACKJACK and Tony Ripepi and a few others can form a new club. Minimum 3 Cobras to join.

Who wouldn't want to own a Kirkham. Some raffle this will be!

I wonder if Shelby American could be talked ito donating one of the originals from their museum?

TURK

I think Ed is not aware of this yet, and when he wakes up and reads this post he is going to $**T.

TURK

Greg Dunn 12-22-2002 10:42 AM

Raffle ticket pricing needs to compel the NON COBRA FANATIC to "take a chance". WE all know the value of the Kirkham and WANT to own an open air roadster however, when I tried to "hawk" tickets to DV1 to my co-workers at GM the $50 price was inhibiting. People have a "lotto" mentality - they want to win a car/truck/vacation for NOTHING. I don't profess to know where the "middle" is in this - maximum sales @ maximum price - but I found even $50 very difficult to sell to the general population. I think a $20 ticket with 10 for $100 might be attractive. My .02

Turk 12-22-2002 10:54 AM

Greg,
You are absolutely right.
How many tickets could be sold for $1000.00 each even if you had a 1 in a 100 chance?

People will pay $100.00 for groups of 5 tix for 5 chances, before they will pay $100.00 for one, even if it is the same odds. having 5 tix makes them feel like they are getting more.

That is why, in Las Vegas you will see someone playing 5 coins at Quarter Slots, before they will play the dollar machines.
DV has had enough experience at this by now, I am sure a happy medium will be reached to make it appealing to MANY.

If it was left up to me, I say we sell one winning ticket to me and let it go at that. I wouldn't care if the ticket was $50,000.

This will be fun.

TURK

Mohuska 12-22-2002 11:24 AM

Greg is right

Having done events and raffles.....people will spend far more and more often to have more chances at a lower price.....Greg's number of $20 each or 10 for $100 (or $150) would bring out more people and raise far more money in the end...

As for me.....I would give my left gnishka for a Kirkham and may do that....how much do you think I could get???

I say bring on the raffle!!!!!....I is a GREAT!!! way to raise money for CF!!
