DVSF IV Update -2-19-04
 

I knew when I decided to cancel the Fling for the safety of our family, that it would raise a stir. I had no idea that it would raise a coast to coast tornado!

My phone, my e-mail, the shop has been a constant whirlwind, full of suggestions, hints, (a few threats ;) and more offers of help and ideas than I ever thought were possible.

Since last night "we" have come up with three "Plan A's".

So here it is: The Spring Fling will go on.

Same dates and "MAYBE" the same location. Jack, aka Hotfingers called me bright and early this morning insisting that we had to hold the Spring Fling somehow, somewhere, someway. Jack has offered, with the help of the Northern Ohio Cobra Club to work out as many details, as fast as possible to hold the Spring Fling in the Cleveland area. Actually he has all the hotels picked out, and is on a crash course to setting up one heck of an agenda. Just one of the ideas is a cruise/tour to the world famous "Rock n Roll" hall of fame. A cruise to a really great park which is more than big enough to hold us all, along the Lake Erie shore line. They also have the original (Ohio) Quaker Steak and Lube and they too are ready to host our little family.

This is truly a work in progress so stay tuned as they say. I am sure that these guys can do this and do it probably better than we can ;)

Now it's time for plan "A" part 1. Hopefully all the turmoil for the last 24 hours will be for naught. Our Sniper has been caught and is locked up, or at least something along those lines. DV Jr. came out this morning with blood in his eye! He too never knew the cancellation was coming. After much discussion, debate, and new planning we have decided to make MAY 1st. our deadline.

In other words, everything will proceed as normal. (If you can call the Fling normal!) If the SOB isn't caught or put out of commission by MAY 1st, then Jack will take over and host the DVSF IV in the Cleveland area.

This has all happened in the last 24 hours, so bear with us please. It will take place one way or the other! Don't worry about anything, that's up for us to do, you guys just keep making those plans.

Alright then, I did say there were three plan A's. We DO have another plan that is somewhat different from the Spring Flings of old, but it is ten times more awesome. In fact one guy in one of the threads hit it right on the head! I thought how the hell could he know, then realized it was just another great suggestion from our group.

I along with some very important people will be hammering out the details tomorrow afternoon. IF we succeed, the Fling IV will be at least three times bigger than it ever has, with two to three times the amount of Cobras getting involved from all over the country. As I mentioned, if this takes place it will be like nothing we have ever done before, it will be huge and it truly will be continental. Trust that before we go this route I will ask for your blessings, either yay or nay, it will be up to "you" to decide.

That's it for now. I just want to say thank you to everyone. Thank you for your support in this difficult time, and difficult decision making.

With this awesome family of ours, we will make this work!

I haven't heard anything about the guy being caught. Did you mistype? (I hope not)

Folks to my knowledge the shooter has not been caught. Remember I live here and there is no news about this. I think what DV was doing was describing a future scenerio. You know, fast forward a month, the shooter has been caught, that sort of this.

They will get this guy. His image may have been caught on video, he had reportedly made calls to the cops that have been caught on tape, they have a good ballistics match, he follows a distint profile, the have general descriptions, etc. If he keeps going, they will get him.

Totally confusing, hey? I once again apologize! Typing to fast, thinking to fast, and not getting complete thoughts and sentences together. Rick read it right. IF they catch the guy before May 1st, 2004, then the Fling will go on as originally planned.

If he is NOT caught then we will simply relocate to the Cleveland area where Hotfingers will strut his stuff.

OR....if plan 3A comes about, then we will do that as a group.

Just so you know:

Our plan, 3A was supposed to be put together Friday by 3 PM, and then put in front of all of you for a vote.

This plan involves 4 major players in the auto world. Those four people and myself were to have a continental conference call to see if the details could be worked out. Unfortunately this all came to a head so fast that two out of the four were not going to be available for the call on Friday. So, hopefully time schedules have been worked out, and we are going to try again Tuesday, 2-24-04.

Once again, please be patient. As soon as I know, you will know.

I just spoke with the President of the Famous 50's Rod & Customm Club and hr offered to help with a possible alternate location.

His club hosts a four day event at the Nevele Grand Hotel resort in Ellenville, NY. The resort is huge and it is secure with a check-in gaurdpost gate at the entrance. The resort has a few hotel buildings with hundreds of rooms that start at $110.00 per night. His event is every year during Father's Day weekend - this year 6/17 to 6/20; and the usual turn out is anywhere from a few hundred to a thousand Rods & Customs, so there is pleanty of room for the Fling.

He said that if you wanted to try to do the Fling at the Nevele, he could make it happen, as far as getting a booking.

Please let me know if this is an option you would consider and I'll put you in touch with him.

Perhaps there's a possibility of holding the Fling side by side with his event; there is usually a huge turnout of people and that could be great exposure as far as raising contributions for the Jenny Fund.

I know that the Fling is a special event and am not trying to replace it, but I thought it maight be a possible option.

I AIN'T NEVER BEEN CALLED A "PROFILER" BUT A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF EXPERIENCE LEADS ME TO BE PRETTY DARN SURE THAT THIS DUDE WILL BE DONE IN A MATTER OF A FEW WEEKS.

Updated all the threads but this one..darn.
Time schedules got in the way again Tuesday. One of the players still couldn't make the call. So, it is now on at anytime.
