Longer spark plug wires

Bob, I saw some beautiful pics of several ERAs being built. I like the way ERA is routing the spark plug wires; four together between the carb and valve covers and then over the tall valve covers to the plugs. My FMS wires are too short to cover this distance. What brand and part number of plug wires are you using?

We get almost all the engines already outfitted with the spark plug wires. When we do replace the wires, we build the lengths from scratch using Moroso and Accel components.

I bought a roll from MSD and cut to the lenghts I needed. With my wide looms and routing the wires down and to the front, it's a better look than over the top of the valve covers.

I know magna core will make you some to whatever length you want, of course you can also make your own if you want to really get creative.

From Summit, I ordered the FMS Racing Wire set (-M302) which needs to be assembled at the distributor ends. All eight wires are 38 inches long. This is plenty long to route the wires like I want.

The instructions to terminate the ends (at the distributor) is to strip the wire back 5/8 inch and fold the bare wire under the metal terminal and crimp into place. Is there any tricks to make this connection easy and secure?

You can use something like this along with a vise: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-3503/ It works pretty well.

Something like this is even better though: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-900400/

I've used both types. Both make a very nice and secure crimp. The vise type is a bit less convenient though because you have to figure out the proper length for your wire and then get it over to your vise. With the hand held crimper, you can route the wire and make the crimp with the wire still installed on your car.
